Absolutely. It also looks like three of his first morning pairings are no longer secret either - JT & Spieth, Xander & Patrick and DJ & Colin. Whereas Padraig is playing a much smarter game. Could this become 2004 again?

As much as I would like Europe to win and all, I don't really see how they can win this time, USA has better players in better form, playing on course that suits them better...

DJ and Morikawa confirmed?

I reckon DeChambeau and Morikawa would be a good combo.

Not confirmed. No pairings have been announced yet, but they have been practicing together and they play the same ball. Bryson probably held back for four-ball only.

If I was putting money on it I'd say the fourth pairing will be Finau and Koepka.

Strick starting to appear nervous. Waffled on about 'the envelope' for ages.

Padraig, on the other hand, is growing in confidence, having fun with the media and the crowd.

LMAO, so now good coaches have to be great orators in front of the press? Ever see Bill Belichick or Jim Boeheim?

Cantlay-Schauffele were a strong team in the 2019 Presidents Cup.

Similar game and demeanour.

Ahhh, I see….

“The good friends spent part of the PGA Tour’s one-week off-season celebrating their successes in Napa, California, along with their significant others – Schauffele’s wife Maya and Cantlay’s girlfriend Nikki Guidis – and drinking some very good wine.”

Ok, so we got these two. Spieth and JT.

The only thing is, off the top of my head, thats like 4 of the best putting/short game guys we got. So if paired, they gotta win like all their matches.

No. My point was more that Harrington seems to be one step ahead of Stricker so far; The Packers colours, the cheeseheads and his rapport the media. This all may well be irrelevant if the US team perform as expected, but if they don't, the media will bring this stuff up and will savage him.

Don't get me wrong, Stricker is under way more pressure than Harrington and it's starting to show. If the best US team ever on paper doesn't beat a fairly average European team on home soil there will be carnage. His handling of the Brooks - Bryson spat will be cited. Questions will be asked about his picks and Phil is waiting in the wings ready to throw him under the bus, as he did with Tom Watson.

I’m with KennyP. Its about the art of the game and the gamesmanship (including the public display) is part of the game.

I disagree with using the Belichick “orator” argument, it misses the point. He was actually a master at the press conference. Never displaying emotion, never revealing anything. That was part of the game.

The whole tattoo question was a good example of a softball question that was a perfect opportunity to shine. Would you get a tattoo if you win? “Oh well i have to ask my wife”…..really??

At the end of the day its not really going to matter given the reality of the playing field.

The cat and mouse game of the pairings is irrelevant.  It's a fun little game for the media to guess, but it doesn't effect what the Captains will do one bit.

Why does the US team seem so stiff in practice rounds for the Ryder Cup compared to the European side? The US team treats it like a corporate outing and whereas the European team seems to have more fun. I noticed this at the 2016 Ryder Cup, I know the US won that won easily, but that European Team was probably the worst team ever.

Its really amazing how much the Ryder Cup, w/all its hype has evolved these past 25 plus years. The past grudge matches featuring the likes of Langer, Torrence, Woosnam, Monty,McKinley, Faldo, Clarke & Seve have become a thing of the past for a few distinct reasons. In that day, most of the Euro players predominately played on the Euro tour. That was their primary golf home, exceptions playing in PGA Majors. The modern Ryder Cup competitions thrived as two distinct golf cultures, w/ the Euros once under dog status providing a type of chip on their shoulder & motivation to prove they were every bit the players the US pros were. The passion was real, and the matches reflected that. Today, the Ryder Cup consists of a world wide collection of pros who primarily compete on the PGA Tour. Most Euro team members reside here in the US, attended US colleges, are members of various US golf clubs, train together w/a group of the same instructors. Many marry US girls, & raise their families here, travel together, stay at the same hotels, vacation together, have similar sponsors & equipment contracts. There has become little to differentiate one team from the other today other than the team gear & apparel. The media loves to hype the event up, but the fact is this has become a PGA team A vs PGA team B event. The contrived passion has waned considerably. Now it's a competition between fellow neighbors, co workers, families, & friends. The days of one team genuinely disliking the other due to perceived lack of mutual respect, has evolved into a series of boring social media posts & feuds between US team members trying to drum up interest among fans. Sadly, Seve must be turning over in his grave after seeing how "friendly" this event has become.

Is WAG "wife and girlfriend?"  If so that number seems light for getting them both there.

You think $30,000 for each player is not enough for travel expenses? They used to travel together on a chartered flight, but they're so spoiled and filled with team spirit now that some of them wanted their own planes.

And European team members get nothing except a gift from their Captain, and they fly together on a chartered flight.

This is exactly the US's problem - for the most part, they act like robots. I honestly think some of that is the influence of Tiger, who most of these guys looked up to.  They formed their golf games as "all business" on the course and I'm not sure playing loose and relaxed is in their nature.

Contrast that with the Euros, any who most will say were influeced by Seve.  Seve was dead serious on the course, but had a flair and it wasn't beneath him to jingle some change in the pocket during matches.

Recently, the US has played best when they've had guys who could keep them loose - the best example probably at Valhalla with Boo Weekly and Anthony Kim providing some much needed fun/flair.  It's why I think you need a guy like Reed or Horschel on the team - guys who will show passion on the course. I'm hoping some of the new guys will provide that, but we won't know until they start to hole some putts.

Amen. I'm gonna watch the Ryder Cup on Sunday but there's no way the RC can compete with football.

Depends on where you are. Football in the south is on Saturday.  😉

Ya, and what the NY are playing sure ain’t

football 🤣

Unless there’s some good matchups of non-ny teams I’ll just watch the RC Sunday.

Even Saturday if big games on I doubt I’ll watch any wire to wire.

Pre-tournament tv coverage suggestion: a couple of cameras on the course, another camera wandering other interesting places on the grounds, a commentator in the studio giving us an occasional insight on what we’re looking at - all to give us the flavor of being there. So much better than endless pundits and interviews with everyone dutifully reciting sports cliches ad nauseam.

Well actually there is only one team that plays Football in NY and that's Buffalo 🙂  And they are doing Okay.

I'll still watch the RC despite having money on Bills this Sunday.
