I’m looking at it the other way, Clarke picked Kaymer because he has Ryder Cup experience, that worked out horrendously. Harrington picking Lowry over Rose moves away from that type of thing. All of that said, I still think that this year is going to end up like 2016 😂

Think this is basically a mirror image of 2016 unfortunately, you can hide 1, even 2 players at a ryder cup, but you cant hide 3 or 4

Also i would have been shocked if he had picked rose over Lowry, Lowry deserved his pick

Completely agree - as you say, there are going to be a few players on that European team sheet that aren’t looking great going into the event. Poulter being a pick is a concern - three top 10’s all season is not pick material for me. Sergio is barely any better. I completely see that they have great pedigree in the Ryder Cup but so does Bernhard Langer and I don’t see him getting a pick.  Add in Fitzpatrick and Hatton and I just don’t see how it is possibly going to end well for Europe.

I think Sergio started playing well just in time, but would have been 50/50 with him and Rose, Poulter always raises his game somehow, even a poor Ryder cup for Poulter and he wins more points than he loses

My main concerns are Fitzpatrick (just doesnt look right at a Ryder cup, and is playing rubbish) Westwood (hes doing ok but his best form was 4 months ago) hatton (what on earth has happened to him, marriage can't be that bad, or good) Wiesberger ( i like him but he doesn't like pressure)

But apart from them 4 or 5 where looking good 🙄

Clarke was a disaster in each and every aspect of that Ryder Cup excluding his hairstyle... Paddy picked Shane cause he is Irish, I understand the politic but SMH...

I think having Burnt Cheeseburger in the team kinda messed up Paddy's picks, he thought Rose or Shane would have picked an automatic spot...

Anyway, go Europe!

Yeah Wiesberger totally messed it up for Paddy’s picks that is for sure but I would rather have someone playing their way onto the team than relying on a pick.

You do? It really depends on the players imho. Having Wood and Sullivan playing their way into the team was not that exciting imho 😄

It was awful to watch, really awful. They had played well early to mid in qualifying but their games had completely deserted them by the time the matches game around. At least Wiesberger has earned his spot with some recent performances.

I must admit, I have completely wiped the context of it from my mind but do distinctly remember thinking that that was the final nail in the coffin of Westwood’s top tier career. He’s proven me wrong on that count but his comments over the weekend don’t fill me with conference about the state of his game going into the event.

So many European players with average to below average form.

Fitzpatrick, Fleetwood, Hatton, Lowry, McIlroy, Poulter, Westwood and Wiesberger.

I expected a good old thrashing from the Americans.

It’s probably just as well that it on night time TV the side of the Atlantic as some of the scenes are going to be far to crude for a day time audience 😂

I honestly think Westwood was kind of hoping to get knocked out, whenever he's been asked about it he doesnt exactly sound like he cant wait to get there, i was half expecting him to say he was pulling out

I was really surprised with some of his comments. More that he vocalised them than actually thought them. That he thought them, given some of his fragilities in the past is perhaps not hugely surprising them but admitting to them seemed a strange one.

Pretty sure that they gave Harrington the option of four picks when they delayed from last year and he turned them down saying that he would have picked the guy that finished in 9th anyway. Absolutely guarantee if it had been someone like Victor Perez that finished in 9th there is no way he would have picked him 😂

The thing is that there isn't any European player who was not picked playing really well.

  • Perez - nothing since the WGC Match Play
  • MacIntyre - missed the last 3 cuts
  • Migliozzi - average performances
  • Detry - haven't been able to take advantage of good starts of late
  • Rose - average performances but playing better than Westwood
  • Noren - game seems to be coming back but too late

Fair point for sure. A lot of Scottish people thought that MacIntyre had a chance of a pick but I honestly don’t think that they have paid any attention to how he has been playing lately.

Stenson was worthy of some consideration. The past month or so he seems to have discovered some of his better stuff but nowhere near good enough. Cannot see how we do not get steam rolled by the US.

I'm frankly surprised that the fiery Oh-by-the-way-now-I'm-Slovakian and Olympic medalist, Rory Sabbatini, wasn't considered for Team Euro.

All good points, but what I would do is giving the captain the freedom to chose his own team, even with 12 picks, I don't care. That would also give the role of captain more sense. What if Laporta pulls a Wood and wins Wentworth? No way I would want him on my team leaving out Stenson, Noren, Rose...

Shame for Rose. If Lowry hadn't been knocked out of the automatic places by Weisberger today then I'm sure he would have got the nod. A very strong European team though.

It is Wiesberger.
What is the matter with people having trouble putting the "i" and the "e" in the correct order in names like this?
It also happens with Spieth all the time.
Wiesberger making it from the European Points list was almost a given, if he made the cut at Wentworth, and he doesn't miss many cuts. The race was more between Lowry and Westwood on the World Points list.
That being said, I would have picked Rose before Lowry, and I would not have been as certain about Poulter as Harrington seemed to be, so probably Lowry instead of Poulter. The "Postman Magic" has got to end at one point.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.
