Ryder Cup 2020/21 (***NO COVID/POLITICS***)

The lead is huge, but I'm still hoping for great matches tomorrow. It's only every 4 (5 this time) years I get to watch a RC on a normal time zone schedule. It feels so far ago, but the RC in Paris was the weekend of my wedding. I almost forgot sitting in the hotel room the morning of watching the US get trounced with nothing else to do.

Sentimentally, I'd love to see Speith make the putt to clinch it. He had a lid on the cup all day and just making 2 or 3 of his putts could have knocked down Rahm and Garcia.

I must say, Strickler is almost the ideal RC captain. His understanding of strategy, tactics, and psychology has just been superlative. Yes, he had some great people to work with, but he way maximized their effectiveness. Kudos to Steve.

That's my point. He already has his hay in the barn. He couldn't screw up now if he tried.

I agree. It’s a one in a billion shot now.  But I have to add this.    Green hay in the barn too early …..has burned down many barns!  😂

Do they just show up with a lineup 1-12 and they fall how they are numbered?

They do - but you gotta believe the captains are both estimating what the other guy's list is going to look like. Whoever guesses best has an advantage. Not certain Strickler could have gotten a better set of pairings if he had picked both himself.

Day 2 takeaways

- Koepka should have been given relief

- Morikawa is probably the best player in the field this week ...nearly every time they go to him live hes nailing a drive, stiffing an iron, or holing a clutch putt

- I knew Lowry would make that putt on 18, he's clutch too. And I like watching how he plays the game with his flighted iron shots. Not many do that any more, it's like a lost art

- Dechambeau will win over many fans this week

- Rory is not the most talented player in the field any more. Rahm is, and others are filling up the "checks all the boxes" category too. Rory's best days are behind him, and he's playing like he knows it.

- US will most likely win ...stricker deserves some credit, but really this is the deepest Ryder cup team I can recall seeing.

- whistling straits is visually stunning but it's less difficult than it looks ...the greens are large and for the most part not too severe

- europe is at serious risk of losing by an historic margin since they expanded the team from UK to all of Europe. I don't think this says anything about future of European golf, it's bright. This is just a uniquely deep US team this year.

How is the future of European Ryder Cup golf bright? The old guard is retiring and no one is ready to take their place than even comes close to the US players.

Someone please tell me what Paddy was thinking sending out Rors first?!

If Rors can't get a Sunday point we have absolutely zero chance ?!

Actually man, that makes at least some sense. Padrig probably assumed Steve would send out one of his best first for the sake of momentum. Rory has been badly off all week, he's kind of a throwaway. Not a bad idea to let Stricker waste one of his stars on someone with little chance. I may be totally wrong here, but the strategy makes a little sense (even if too little too late).

I have to say that as an American, I’m utterly disappointed in the spectacle that has become the US presence at the Ruder cup. From boisterous and belligerent fans to antagonist players, I find this competition hard to even watch. Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game, but this feels like a high school pep rally with alcohol. I know the US is eager to win, but where’s the class and decorum that should be associated with an international team event. Granted, there as the exceptions, Xander, Spieth, Stricker, Dustin, and Colin; but otherwise, I find the rest borderline embarrassing. It’s like the crowd and part of the team adopted the tenet that fake macho-ism is a sign of grit and toughness, boisterous is a substitute for confidence, and strong talk is what defines the character of a man. For tonight, I hope Stricker sits the players down and makes them watch tapes of Nicklaus, Palmer, Faldo, and Watson to instill what’s winning with class looks like.

But I think Stricks just get up really early and stick copies of this on everybody’s locker ; )

Sure there have been blowhards in years past on the European teams as well. Poulter being the best example. But never has there been a majority, not do I remember Europeans fans ever yelling epitaphs at players like “F&@$ you”, “Choke a&$hole”, or  “hit it in the water”, during players backswings. It’s a silly golf tournament that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme things, it’s shocking people are willing to resort to such lows, and jeopardize their and their countries respectability during entertainment events.

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
