Oddly, a lot of the players themselves might disagree with you. They actually seem to think "strategy, tactics, and psychology" matter, and they appreciate it, in every sport.

 

Of course, your opinion is much more important than the players themselves. Quote your stats if that makes you happy and helps you (for reasons I don't understand) denigrate Stricker. 

 

I do know that "it don't mean nothin' 'till you prove it all night". And Steve did. And I'll bet his team will give him serious props even if you don't want to.

My theory on Tiger and Phil was that they resented playing for free, and performed accordingly.  Ryder Cup players should absolutely be paid.

Tiger probably was frustrated with having to have a partner.  Phil does Phil things (same reason he doesn’t have more majors).  Tiger was making $100 million a year, how much you going to pay him that he wouldn’t consider loose change in the couch.

That absolutely makes sense, but the Ryder Cup is huge for a lot of European Tour players because it's you into the British Open and PGA Championship if you make the team.

The real issue is that the Euro Tour needs to bank every penny from the RC and can't afford to pay its players. Thus they've crafted this "pride and patriotism" narrative to conceal the fact that they can't (or won't) pay the players. The Euro players are okay with this, although rumors have surfaced over the years that they were paid (by corporate sponsors, not the tour).

In all honesty I think the European Tour will keep on getting weaker. Guys like Rahm and Rory live in the US with families and don't want to play in a different country every weak for a fraction of the PGA Tour prize fund.

Big fail from Padraig for mine. I know he didn’t have the best team, granted but some of his pairings have been pretty bad. Playing names not form has clearly let them down.

He wasn't picked. He qualified for European team from the RC world points list. The same way Rory qualified.

In the heat of the competition, things like this can happen. I can imagine this might ruffle some feathers on both sides. Butch Harmon called it classless. I think it adds some spice to the Sunday matches. 😂🤣😂

Exactly and that was my point in my post. Doesn’t matter who does it, whether it’s 1985 and the Europeans or 1999 with the US at Brookline. Neither is acceptable.
 

My point in all of this is it detracts from great play by the US who deservedly lead the competition. I would say the same if it was the other way round.

I love Bryson and find him endearing, but I do giggle at this one. It's like 7 inches from being in the leather of an armlock putter
