If you check the world rankings, Europe had very little else to pick from. Maybe Noren or McIntyre but very limited options. Meanwhile 6 or 7 other American players could have easily made the European team.

 

An example is how Mickelson didn’t make this team despite winning a major, while Poulter, Westwood etc made it on the European team regardless.

Europe have always been behind in the World rankings.

As big as this defeat is going to be, they will probably win the next one.

It’s going to be tough, Europe need Rory back to his best, Fleetwood to come to his best form, Hovland to continue and then someone new to emerge at the very least.
