Does Stricker not get right of first refusal?

He may not be interested, but if what you’re interested in is winning on foreign soil, and not just having everyone get a turn, why change captains, at all?

Captaining two winning teams would be a pretty cool thing to add to your resume and I can see Zach getting passed over.

Is Zack Johnson a leader, though?  Sure he's won a couple of majors, but he barely cracked the Top 10 rankings that many times in his career.  I just don't envision a lot of excitement for him being captain.

They should give it to Azinger again, so he can prove (or not) that he can win in Europe.  Winning in the U.S. is a lot easier.

Any more a leader than Stricker or Furyk?

And Langer's actually meant something ... Fitzpatrick's was a meaningless match that literally NOBODY cared about. How would this possibly effect his career in any way?

Seriously. If this is true than the kid needs to see a shrink and work on his mental fitness.

I’m all for Stricker getting another crack, but he’s not doing two captaincies back to back. Too much time. Being a captain is a huge investment.

Hard to disagree with Stricker's results.  He seemed to be more of a silent behind the scenes leader.  Furyk had to go to Europe, where it's a lot harder to win.

The U.S. hasn't won in Europe since 1993, almost 30 years.  Is Zach Johnson the right fit for that environment?

If he is a players captain like Stricker, yes. He has the horses and he’ll do fine.

Why is couples being passed up?

Heard that the PGA of America thinks he’s too passive. Also, this…

“Another reason Couples' captaincy was passed over is again an offshoot of his overly-relaxed demeanor. According to Diaz's sources, Couples' decision to text Jim Furyk the news that he wouldn't be selected as a captain's pick for the 2013 Presidents Cup, rather than calling him, reportedly left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. That Furyk is one of the eight men on the PGA's Ryder Cup Task Force surely didn't help matters.”

Stricker said in one of the interviews after the RC was done that he does not want to be captain in 2023.

No, and he’s already said he won’t. They already know who the next one is, will tell us later.

Since the players don't get paid for Ryder Cup. Where does all the money go from the endless TV commercials they run during the event?

I read some of it goes to charity and expenses. But what about the rest?

PGA of America and European Tour.

The way the European Tour is shrinking I can see future sides being picked more from the World list as we seem to be running events where the prize pot is less than second place in a US event. The European media put enormous pressure on the Captain to pick the old guard for nostalgic reasons...SKY TV were bleating about "can't have a Ryder Cup without Poulter..".

Next RC in Italy should see a radically different team minus the old guard. Another hiding like last night and Euro sponsors will jump ship.

To do what with? Aren't these non-profit orgs? Just boosting their budgets then?

Fair enough if they can get some of the best players in the world to play for free and do something patriotic.

The European Tour probably need it to pay Keith Pelley's obscene wages ... still makes my blood boil that someone agreed to pay him 5 times what the previous CEO was earning ...
