The best Ryder Cup I've watched in years.  Lots of young talent that want to represent America  - that I love to see.

I like to see the good ol' USA win ... but this was the worst Ryder Cup to watch. No drama.

Anyone know how many balls actually ended up in lake Michigan?

It didn't come into play as much as I expected.

Lots of shots disappeared over the edge on camera, only to be shown being played, sometimes from reasonable lies.

The lake isn't really in play as much as you think... you've got to be really offline... I saw 1 in the lake from Fleetwood with a fairway wood

The ponds on 5 got a workout, however.

Guess it depends on how connected one gets to each player's outcome.  My competitive kill - step on my opponent's throat till the end, came out.

A player had to be really duck hook offline to find Lake Mi...  Course the Wide angle lens from the tee makes it look lot tighter than it is.   The Snake Par 5, pond got way more balls.  Lots found the bunker below the green, and some in the hay next to the bunker.  It Plays like playing the bunker on PGA West Stadium course, think its #16.  If you know how to play that type of shot, not really hard.

I agree. Also the rookies largely put up an impressive showing.

Sorry I can't resist, but that didn't age well for you and @Forged4ever 🙂

Heard that the PGA of America thinks he’s too passive. Also, this…

“Another reason Couples' captaincy was passed over is again an offshoot of his overly-relaxed demeanor. According to Diaz's sources, Couples' decision to text Jim Furyk the news that he wouldn't be selected as a captain's pick for the 2013 Presidents Cup, rather than calling him, reportedly left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. That Furyk is one of the eight men on the PGA's Ryder Cup Task Force surely didn't help matters.”

Well, they should know that Freddie is allergic to phones. Always has been. I remember an interview with him in one of the golf magazines back in the '90s where the author was visiting Fred at home and the phone kept ringing, but Fred never picked it up. When asked why, Fred had the classic response, "Because someone might be on the other end." 😄

Our guys won... but the finishing wins are mostly cause Euros didn't step up.  To me, if the winner didn't win be a huge margin, the opponent didn't get stomped on... but politely patted on the az???  😛  Old guy, DJ, had the most impressive wins, 4/3; the rest 3/1 and 2/1 wins doesn't suggest killer, but I am happy, nonetheless.

As I understand it, there were a number of 'little things' done that havent been done a lot in the past:  Not keeping a rigid off-course schedule.  Letting the caddies and families be around a lot as opposed to keeping the team sequestered together all the time.  Almost like keeping it as much of a PGA Tour event feel as possible.

During the press conference, Stricker was asked about that sort of thing and I thought his answer was pretty forthcoming. He gave the impression that in the past there were lots of commitments imposed upon the players during the week - going to fine affairs in tuxedos, etc - and that it became very tiring for them, especially for those who didn't enjoy that sort of thing. So they carved almost all of that kind of stuff out of the schedule. The same with bringing in high-profile outside speakers to motivate the team, which apparently left a lot of them cold and which they felt was a time-waster and a distraction. It seems what they did was just have a team meal each evening and the rest of the time left everyone alone. They also carried on with the pod concept that Azinger started when he was Captain, so the assistant captains each had 2 or 3 players who they were responsible for listening to and communicating with. I gather they have analytics that were analyzed to help determine team pairings, but he said they also listened to what the players preferences in that regard were, That did away with the Hal Sutton/Tom Watson type of pairings being imposed upon them and making them uncomfortable.

I definitely think that once things settle down, the PGA of America should try its best to get Stricker to do a repeat performance in Rome.

That is the way of the tour these days even

in the majors. You have to go out and win it. Not to many backed into victories these days.

I don't see many tour wins taken by a big margin.  Mostly leaders tend to error and come back to the field a few strokes, while others behind leaders make more errors.

Like when Tiger would win.  I wasn't a big Tiger fan but always got the sense he wanted badly to take the win buy a big margin, no fear on making the field look weak.  Maybe some younger guys today are looking to be similar, only time will tell.

I'm not sure if anybody has posted these stats for the US team;

Rookies win rate:  74%

Captain's picks win rate: 71%

I think we are over the Tiger (39%), Phil (46%), Furyk (35%), Stricker (30%)  win rate disasters over the past 20 years.

Maybe our captains will abandoned the "pick the experienced guys" strategy.

I think the picks were brilliant for the venue and they made him look better by playing well. Now the US has guys that have gained some (positive) experience and should have a strong core to hopefully get it done in Europe, where I expect the course to be completely different and likely setup to neutralize the US strengths.

Uncle Cardy observations of the RC

- picking experienced guys is dead. … the USA followed this forever in error

- the first tee theatrics add a needed fun element to pro golf

- a rigid social schedule for players is dead

- letting players pick their partners is $$$ (no more Watson and Sutton dictatorships)

- incredible venue with dramatic par 3’s and par 5’s

- three drivable par 4’s a major bonus

- celebratory press conference a win

- somebody show these media clowns how to capture and show all shots

wish list

- all players have to play once before the singles

- one of the alt shots should be Chapman format (u play my tee ball for 2nd shot and vice versa, alternate in from there)

- more match play on tour … how about a 2man better ball world championship?  Amazing brackets

Great post!!

THIS is a US Team to be proud of and to build on, not only because they won in such dominating fashion, though make no mistake, this is a beating that the Euro Members on that team will NEVER forget, however these young US Players don't have the scars, mental pictures and memories from the recent US Ryder Cup defeats, ie., 2014/2018, where their locker rooms were made for TV reality sh*t shows and their Play lackluster. They came to Wisconsin with no positive mental pictures/images to draw on "under the gun," and it didn't matter as they made their own, and they've made enough to last em a life time, much less the next decade!!

As TL stated, there is a great core of young guys who have now "been there done that" and regardless of who joins the 2023 team & beyond, I expect this younger nucleus to be on that Team or jockeying for a spot on the Team for the next decade. I never doubted their ability and talent. I just didn't expect them to respond mentally as they did, and I though that Brooks and Bryson would be a negative influence. I was sorely mistaken as they obviously helped with the young guys.

That said, I'm sure that now that both Bryson & Brooks have hoisted and drank from the cup🏆, that their opinions on the Ryder Cup have changed, or at least in Brooksie's case, he can now better understand why the Ryder Cup occupies the place that it does in Professional Golf, and why it beats the sh*t outa late morning naps😏

I'm really happy for that Team, their support staff and their families!!

Hopefully, this experience sheds a different light on the Cup for B&B cuz they are in a position to lead a nucleus of Players with the physical talent that the US Team hasn't had this century and going back to the at least the mid-90's.

Sam stated that there were only three times in his Professional Tour career when he got chills down his spine, one being on the first tee at Augusta when his name was announced, the second was on Friday Morning on the first tee of the first session of the Cup🏆 on American soil🇺🇸 when his name was announced, with the third being when he walked up the 18th FW on Sunday afternoon of his single's match in the Cup🏆. I don't say this in a nasty or negative way as I cared for Sam a lot(I Loved Pete, told him so and he replied in kind, though my feelings for Sam didn't rise to that level). That said, Sam was THE most self centered egotistical narcissistic Tour Boy that I've EVER met or spent any time with and while he could be kind hearted and fun to be around, well, I'll leave it at that. My point being that if someone like Sam, who's ego put G&G's to shame and was me, Me, ME could get that emotional/excited about the Ryder Cup🏆, there's hope yet for the guy that needs his naps above all else along with the Guy that wants to moonlight as a Long Baller!!

I think that they're both gonna be kickin someone Euro *ss for years to come😝😜

In almost all sports, the athletes are dictating how things should go.  Gone are the days where a head coach, manager, or captain can act like a dictator and expect their players to perform nor are they as interested in motivational speeches.  Athletes at the top of any sport are already ultra motivated.  You don't get to the top of the sport without being ultra competitive.

Granted, other sports still need a coach to call timeouts, manage substitutions, and call plays...a Ryder Cup captain really just needs to stay out of the way.  I'm not saying Stricker's role isn't important...but I think he realized with today's players, less is more from the captain.  There honestly isn't anything a captain can do to make a golfer golf better.  They just need to avoid the things that could make them play worse.
