Removing the sole plate on Red X2

Pry it out using a little pick or something in one of the screw holes. It'll come out, but it won't just fall out.

I have a stack of washers jammed in the cavity of mine, so it pops off a little easier than most after the screws come out.

I'm wondering if there is Loctite on that plate, may need to apply a bit of heat to soften it up to pry it off.

Very possible. A few years have passed since the first time I took mine off, so I can't remember whether it needed heat the first time.

Any specific reason you are wanting to remove it?

FWIW I have a Red X5 and I tried to take the sole plate off mine a while back to clean out some of the sand that was stuck along the edges. Long story short it wouldn't come off easily and I didn't want to break it trying to get it off so I stopped after a little light "prying".

The screws aren't the best and I ended up stripping one putting them back in. Now the plate rattles ever so slightly when I'm tapping down a ball mark or fixing one on the greens. It's not so bad that it's changed the way the putter performs, but it's definitely a slight annoyance and makes me wish I had never tried to remove it to begin with.

@shanx From what I remember there's a little double sided adhesive tape in there holding it down, I think. I used a toothpick or a really skinny screwdriver to pick out after a little heat. Definitely took a little more effort than it would seem it should.

Yeah, I have been poking at it all weekend, it's in there solid!

Thanks for the advice...

You can probably find a replacement at home Depot or McMastercarr. They're standard screws.

I'd have to be able to get the old one out first. Stripped it when I was putting it back in and trying to tighten it.

Fortunately I at least got it almost all the way in there before it happened.

Its the 350gm model, but I have been putting with 375gm putters the past few seasons. So I want to add 25gms to get it heavier so it feels "right" to me.

It's funny how we get used to things and any variation from that feels so "off". I was putting with it inside last night and could feel my putting stroke changing due to the lower weight.

Heat.  Either boiling hot water or careful application of a torch.  It will then come off.

Yup, popped off after consistent heat.

Installed 2 quarters in the pocket and 2.5 strips of lead tape to hold them there.

Feels much more familiar now.

Haven't bagged it yet, still getting used to the SBST stroke on the carpet at home..

It is easier to line up, and the stroke is very simple. I am so used to offset putters and having a "gate" though, every once in a while I pull or push one badly if that gated stroke returns.

The ball does seem to roll better with this putter, I'm gonna put it in play this week.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
