PVGC is open for public play in the afternoons to residents and has no private facilities other than the course itself — even the restaurant is just a public restaurant. It’s also very expensive for what it is for non-PV residents - like $1k/mo and $75k buy in. I actually think if you’re in MB then Mountain Gate makes more sense.

I think monthly is $700s.

Junior Executive memberships are difficult to find.  Most clubs don't have them.  You'll find them at better more costly clubs.  Having been on the BOD and membership head for two high-end clubs, clubs want full members that can afford the costs.  Plus that membership category often goes to friends of members or family members.

I would NOT advise calling a club and asking how much either.  Call, make an appt with membership, sit, face to face with them and learn about the club before talking money.  Money first means the club culture is not important as meeting the budget, not what membership is looking for.  Last, those memberships are not typically advertised, mostly since they are limited in numbers written in the club's charter.  Good luck.

Once on those waitlists, do you feel like they are typically honored or do a lot of new, connected, members get to skip the line?

Depends on the club management, and how stringent it's charter is over membership operations.  I've seen it where family and member friends trump strangers, and where the membership charter defined who's next in line.  Also, if the owner is a benevolent dictator, he/she may have other ideas.

Ah good to know. The variability is what I expected.

Also interested in this….Friendly Hills too because it seems Hacienda isn’t taking new applicants.

I'm a member at Haci. Although we are near our cap in terms of members, it's my understanding we are still accepting applications.

Ask for the director of membership - Nicko.

DM me if you have any questions.

Recent intel on Virginia exec membership for anyone remotely interested: $10k initiation + $1k monthly. They now have a waitlist, require 6 sponsors and membership committee is looking for applicants who have known their lead sponsor for 3+ years. Start networking now - GL.

Also played Brentwood recently - big fan of the remodel. Would love to join if I come across a spare $200k lol

What is difference between the exec membership and other memberships at VCC?

Did they do the remodel at Brentwood during COVID? I played it in summer 2019 and thought it was fine (good condition, was playing VERY firm and fast) but at the end of the day the property is pretty flat compared to say Bel-Air and others in the area in a similar price (stratosphere).

Good point but it's not really accessible from South Bay/SM area and because it's also very expensive

How is Hacienda anymore accessible than Virginia Club? Hacienda has to be the least accessible club in all of Southern California. Someone mentioned Old Ranch, which is further than VCC as well.  VCC isn't cheap but it has the best practice facilities around + a new Par 3 course designed by the same guys who did Augusta's. I think they are $100K/$1000.

I believe the remodel was in 2015 or 2016? So nothing recent, just my first time playing there in a long while. Definitely flatter than the others around, but still good fun. So many options on and around the greens with all of the closely mown areas and severe contours. If I had the blessed problem of choosing between clubs in this price range, I'd probably end up prioritizing location / proximity to home.

When I commented on this I wasn't comparing VCC's accessibility to Hacienda's. I just commented that VCC is not easily accessible for people in the South Bay.  Agreed on Hacienda - not accessible at all for SB people.  Nothing really is except PVCC.

What about the (new) Rolling Hills? Not sure how the course is but the facilities look great most reno.

RHCC is not really "accessible" in both senses - from both a cost/membership and location perspective.  PV peninsula is just hard to get to and with RHCC is located it's time consuming to get there and back. I live in Manhattan Beach and really nothing is accessible other than LACC, Riviera, Brentwood and Bel Air and even then they a PIA to get to

PVGC and RHCC are similar in geographic accessibility.

PVGC is a touch more convenient for the beach cities but if you’re coming from farther away, the 5-10 min difference between the two clubs isn’t significant.

RHCC is closer to the 110 freeway, but again is only another 5-10 min to PVGC, so it’s a matter of how much difference that means to you.

For me, if I worked in say Manhattan or Hermosa beach and lived in PV, the pvgc makes a lot more sense since I’d pass by it. If I worked downtown or elsewhere and commute took me from the 110 to home, the convenience of RHCC would be hard to ignore.

for others that amount of convenience isn’t important.

I’m sure this pricing doesn’t exist anymore/went up but I looked into Sherwood a couple years ago for a Junior Executive membership and it was something like half dues (maybe around $800) but you had to pay $50K upfront and then something like a couple thousand a year until 40. When you turned 40 owed something like $75K less the $50K upfront and less the total accrued yearly payments. My numbers might be slightly off but it was in the ballpark of what I listed. Not exactly LA in my mind but thought it may be a useful data point.

As everyone mentioned, very limited (accessible) options in the from the valley all the down the 405. Anything that is reasonable is closer to/in Northern LA or Ventura county (and you’ll typically have a much more traditional/sociable experience). If you have deep pockets and a pretty established network, anything is possible but it would still take years to get into any of the big westside clubs (even then no guarantees).

Prices seem driven by geography more than golf or facilities.

Welcome to LA! 😀

But yeah, that is definitely true, you pay a lot for proximity, but given underlying land values in LA (all high, but also have some wild differences between say Westside, the Valley, or say Riverside County) it does make sense.

Monthlies at Brentwood now $1700.

If you’re not Jewish or in the entertainment business, you will be an outsider.

Personally, I don’t think it’s a very fun or interesting course.  But the greens are very fast and hard, making scoring difficult for all levels.  And the cool weather and breeze are lovely!   Good chow too. And the markup in the pro shop may be the lowest I’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen plenty of bogey golfers 3-4 putt nearly every green.
