Peak Reed is a better player than the other 3 but if we are to believe him and his statement that he nearly died a couple of weeks ago, there is no way that he is near his peak. Add in all the baggage that he brings with him and the juice is not worth the squeeze.

From the list above Reed.  But if I had a choice of anyone on the squad, Patrick Cantlay.  Maybe I’m a prisoner of the moment, but he just closed out BDC and the world #1 in back to back weeks.

Colin Montgomerie (6-0-2), in his prime.  The dude choked in the majors, but he was stone cold at the Cup.

Something like that, but YJS walks on water here at WRX, he can do no wrong. Just like Jack

Well, Jack did win 18 majors and finished second 19 times, so there's that...

Could have been very different though; In his first singles at Kiawah in '91 Calcavecchia was 4 up with 4 to play and crumbled, hitting two tee shots into the water on the par 3 17th after Monty had rinsed his tee shot. One was a complete duff/shank.

Jack Nicklaus or Larry Nelson.

Really? Jack holds a RC record that will never be broken. Losing twice in singles to the same guy in the same day (Brian Barnes in 1975) that he was light years more accomplished than? Back in those days the RC had two rounds of singles matches the same day. Jack played in 6 RC however he played 10 singles matches. Should have played on more RC teams. His first RC was in 1969 despite being a pro since 1961. The PGA of America had some restrictive rules back then who was eligible for the RC team.

https://irishgolfer.ie/latest-golf-news/2020/04/17/ryder-cup-legends-jack-nicklaus/

In those days, American players had to serve a five-year PGA Tour apprenticeship before being eligible for Ryder Cup selection. Jack – whose solid frame and bright blonde locks had earned the nickname “The Golden Bear” – wasn’t granted full PGA Tour membership until June 1966, leaving him a limited time frame in which to accumulate points for the 1967 Ryder Cup. When qualification ended after the 1967 Masters Tournament, six months and change before the Ryder Cup would take place, Nicklaus found himself in 13th place in the rankings, despite winning three tournaments including an Open Championship in the previous nine months.

When Jack played in his first RC he had already won 7 majors

While this post is mostly in jest, Jack was only 4-4-2 in singles in his RC play. Crazy good 13-4-1 in fourball/foursomes.

How many times did Jack win Pipe Smoker of the Year then? (Brian was in 1977 BTW)

It was in 1975. There was only 1 singles session in the 1977 Ryder Cup. Nicklaus lost to Bernard Gallacher in singles. In '77 Barnes beat Hale Irwin.
