Brooks Koepka on Tiger, “I’m going to catch him on majors”

I mean you're SUPPOSED to have the mentality that you're the GOAT and you're going to dominate every time you step onto the field; otherwise why are you bothering to play? You need that killer mentality, especially in a solo sport.

That said, I will wax my entire body if Brooks is even able to get to double-digit majors in his career.

I am not a Spieth fan, but he's tied for 10th and I would take him to win more than Brooks.

Your guess is as good as anyone's.

I'll check back in 20 years and see the results.

Oh, wait, no, I won't. I probly won't be around in 20 years. :classic_ohmy::classic_laugh:

Agree however, there has to be an honest assessment of that goal and the requirements to reach it.

BK says,

“In my mind, I’m going to catch him on majors. I believe that. I don’t see any reason that can stop me. I’m 31. I have another 14 years left. If I win one a year, I got Jack. “

If you look at the second sentence, he’s either not sharing the reasons he knows can stop him (which I assume he is well aware of) or he’s deluding himself.

For example,

He doesn’t have Tigers game. 🤣 I mean, Tiger beat him at the Masters, which BK has never won, as an old man with a fused back and nowhere near his TW 1.0 skills.

So, given he doesn’t have the TW 1.0 “toolbox”, and the competition now is even stronger, what steps is he taking to make it possible to “catch Tiger”?

Great to visualize success. I can “visualize” that I gonna make 3x as much money next year. But, what is the plan to get there?

BK sees how fast 2 years can go by without a major. Rory sees how fast you can win them in buckets and then go “goose egg” for 7 years.

Of course you have to visualize it and have the plan/training program to get you there. I said in my post that you quoted that the training/plan part is a huge piece in the success of visualization. I’m sure he has the plan, just didn’t go into it in this interview. As you said, “not sharing it” there. I would bet he absolutely believes he can do it. That said, I’d bet bet my house he won’t get half way to it!

"If I win one a year, I got Jack."   -BK

I like the moxie, but he's the only one that might truly believe it.

Breakdown of major championship winners by age: (1960-2014)

• Age 20-25: 24 (11%)

• Age 26-30: 64 (30%)

• Age 31-35: 76 (35%)

• Age 36-40: 34 (16%)

• Age 41-over: 19 (8%)

https://www.golfchannel.com/article/joe-posnanski/does-age-really-matter-golf-yes-it-does

The %'s after 35 are similar since 2014.  Brooks is going to need more than one a year the next five years consecutive or he can forget about catching the Goat.

i'll kiss Brooksies butt right after he takes a #2 if he even gets to 10...but in all honesty it's great that he has that mentality to believe in himself...but he's starting to pile up injuries and getting older doesn't help any golfer out as well

Well nobody needed to read that.

I think he’s just trying to fool himself.

It took TW 12 years to win 14 majors in his prime. That was in his prime with 2x the game BK has. That was with winning 4 in a row and a few multiple Major years.

Then in took TW 14 years to win 2 majors! Yes he was injured for several but..BK getting a bit injury plagued himself.

Jack won 9 majors by 31 (BKs age) Then it took him 14 years to win another 9

BK say he can just win one a year. Ok, that’s 25% of his majors.

In Jack’s prime, age 21-31, he won 20% of his majors

BK basically saying he’s about to embark on a stretch of dominance in the game equal to TW 1.0!

🤣

Home for lunch and for the last hour on Golf Channel Abbott and Costello have done nothing but talk about all the controversy, all the team issues, all the drama and on and on and on and all the hype the team doesn't need before the Ryder Cup.

All of it relates to the Bruce interview which really doesn't say all that much or anything all that bad and nothing else.  Unless I missed something, I haven't seen anything about the attitude of other members of the team, or comments or anything else in the media.  Just dumb.

An hour of yelling and creating controversy that really isn't there and statements that are just utter nonsense.  My dog moved from my chair to the sofa because they were so loud (and he's smarter than they are).

Well, most house plants are smarter than anyone in the media.  Even DJ is...well...uh...OK, never mind.

Darth Cupcake should go fishing for a couple weeks, let the Savage pick Billy Ho, Na, or Darth Preed for the RC. They all pretty much bleed red, white, and blue.  Darth Preed needs a quick pick so they can get the RL stuff tailored enough so he looks less like he is playing in a potato sack

Brooks hasn't won a Major since his Saturday press conference at the Harding Park PGA where he was running his mouth.  He didn't win that one as Morikawa outplayed him and at this year's PGA Phil outplayed him.

I predict that Brooks won't win another Major.  His intimidation factor is gone and there's just too many good young players that are hungry.

That's just another example and why I made the smart decision to cut the cord and all cable news/talk/sports opinion from my home 4 years ago. Sounds like your dog is pretty smart 🙂

He might be "only 31" but when you consider that the likes of Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros and Arnold Palmer never won another major after the ages of 33,31, and 34 respectively, he's basically already at the dark end of the twilight of his Major-winning peak, and especially so when you consider his track record of injuries.

He says he'll never run again, but no problem winning another 11 Majors to tie Tiger ... OK Brooks ... LOL
