Got my 770s last spring. Love 'em. Curious what folks would improve on the current iteration? Thinner topline if possible? Less offset on PW?

I've had mine since July and I was initially thrilled with them. I took about a 12 year golf hiatus and got back into it last fall. I used to be scratch and played blades but from what I read, these would be a nice spot to go (and it still is!) to get a more players iron look and a bit more forgiveness. Well, now that I've gotten my swing dialed in a bit closer to old form, and my confidence being a bit higher, they sometimes feel a bit bulky. I also really miss the feel of a good forged iron, and the p770s sometimes don't have a great feel to them. Some of my mishits that aren't necessarily way off center just have a weird cheap sound I've never heard from a golf shot. I know that's user error and I should be hitting the center anyways but it just really bugs me and I know that's 100% just my personal preference. I think if they could go a bit more compact and thin the topline a bit and figure out that weird sound, they'd be nice, but at that point ... it almost feels like I'm just asking for a forged blade again lol ... just my thoughts on them.

I wished I had went with those initially, but my confidence wasn't there yet with ball striking. I should have just waited honestly! lol I did place an order for the Srixon ZX7s a couple weeks ago after talking with a guy going through what I was looking for and those were one of the top choices.

+1 - 760 was money

760 was one of the best players irons they’ve ever brought out, wasn’t a fan of the 770’s at all to be honest. Hopefully they bring back a little more of the 760 DNA in the next one (chamfered leading edge, no speed foam in the shorter irons)

I commented online to Taylormade and to Trottie about Taylormade was pretty happy with their current line up.
trottie got back to me and questioned why I was saying what I was saying about the MC. I said I don’t like hallow body irons. The MC is fine, but I’m a 8 handicap and like a little more forgiveness. The 760 offered that. He said he would pass the information along because it did make sense. We will see what they do. If I know anything. Taylormade will make something new soon haha.

Finally we are getting some real valuable comments

760 crushed it and this 770 is a total flop

Hope TM/Trottie are listening - I know alot of the big fitters have provided this exact feedback to TM as well

Until then, I am in the T100

I have seen a lot of players on the range that were between 770s and T100. As a 770 owner, the new T100 line is gorgeous.

Went from P770 to T100s this Fall for many of the reasons on this thread; turf interaction, crisp feel.

Find now that the 770 heads felt much heavier as some pointed out. I play the AMT White S300 in both.
While the blade like appearance on T100S took some time to adjust, forgiveness and precision is every bit there.

Pays your money

makes Your choice,

770 big seller in the UK, looks superb,

for a majority of mid to lower handicappers that don’t live in cloud cuckoo land there a good fit, for the mid handicapper who believes he’s a tour wannabe anything other than a butter knife it is not a good fit,

not for me personally but then I prefer

a bit more help, it’s a beautiful club, I wouldn’t dismiss it  because I can’t play it, or don’t have the skill level,  you don’t have to buy TM, if you do you know the model will change before yours are dirty, that’s just

the way it is with TM, but as a iron looks wise, superb, and as consumers we buy with our eyes first, TMs problem is they are trying to hit that perfect mid to low handicap iron, the 790 did just that,

but the ego players want that in a thinner package, hence the 770.

Personally I think  770's look amazing. I was going keep playing my pxg or cally 21 cb x forged. Then the new 790's came out looking like the 770....so I couldn't resist. I'm swinging the 790 & they've been extremely nice to me so far.

T100s more forgiving than the 770s?

P770 felt dead to me - lacked the pop that most irons have, even the MBs, which aren’t known for pop obviously, but the MBs still get up and go - loved the concept of the 770 but they were not a fit for me - too bad as I did like the look at address.  Settled on the 2019 T100 and they are terrific and have better/more traditional feel and with some tech too.

Found a brand new set of P730’s though so I’m messing around with those. I like the P730 a lot - partial ego playing them, but at the same time it’s easier to shape shots & flight the ball and I feel the smaller club head gives me a better mentality over the ball - I feel like I strike them more consistently .Not sure how long the P730 will be in the bag but I know I’d play them any day over the P770.  All sets I mentioned have (or had when I owned the P770) PX 6.0 so no variables there.  T100 or P730 will be in the bag on and off for the foreseeable future.

TM BRNR Mini Driver at 12° (HWF), HZRDUS Black RDX 70 TX, tipped 1", 43.75"

TM Stealth+ 5w at 18.25°, HZRDUS Black RDX 80 6.5, tipped 1”, 42.5”

2023 Titleist T100 (4-GW), PX 6.0, +1/4”

Vokey SM10 54.12(D), 60.08(M), PX 6.0, +1/4"

Have you played with your  ZX7's yet? I'm gaming the ZX7's with 4 & 5 Iron in ZX5 and they are class. I had a fitting for the P770's and it was all down to feel and feedback and the Srixon's definitely feel that nicer, sound nicer and cleaner lines.

TaylorMade's best selling iron is the P790, hence the P770 is more similar to it than the P760 was.

It is difficult to find sets of either the P790 or P770 in stores, but there are still sets of band new P760 out there.  So it is unlikely that they will revisit that design, but lessons can be learned, and improvements can be made to make feel/sound more pleasing, and turf interaction better.

I see that Jason Day is playing the P7MC as of now.  Since the P760 were developed with his input while with TMG, we can surmise that he feels the P7MC are the closest to what they were.

I play the 790s and while not at you guys level, they suffer the same fate. If you don’t center it, it feels very clicky.

Highly disagree on that one.

The P7MC would be in line with the 760/750 so not sure what you're looking to resurrect, it's already there.

nope

p7mc has no help and is more of a 750 replacement, not the 760

there is a hole in the lineup

I get people love the 770, just can't understand why

they are clicky and have no feel

I doubt there are Any former 760 players using them

Here's some shocking info that is good new sfor you, you don't have to understand why people like the 770, you can just keep going about your day.

Harry Higgs went from the 760's to the 770's just as an fyi, and you'll find plenty of 770 4 irons in tour players bags, so they can't be all bad.

Wow

amazingly irrelevant, but thanks

harry clearly is a special guy.  Good for him

day going great - thanks

everyone in the industry hates the 770

but they grin and bear it cause the hacks can’t get enough of it

go figure

I’ll keep loving my t100 until tm offers something competitive
