Playing X Flex in softer profile anyone?

I play the Tensei AV Raw White 65 stiff but have got great results testing the Tensei AV Blue 65 x-stiff. Has anyone ever jumped into an x-flex in a softer profile when they aren’t natural x-flex range?

I’m working on speed. In my Mizuno iron fitting I was averaging 90mph with a 7 iron.

90 w/7i actually is a pretty good base for a borderline s/x but depends a lot on how hard you release the shaft aka stressing the shaft

Are you looking for speed training or just want to experiment?

I did the same a few years back switching from nv 75s to blueboard x73 without leaving anything on the table

For an X flex, tensei blue it's not that strong, maybe just a touch stronger than a white tipped and extra inch. I wouldn't say many mitsubishi offerings play strong to flex unless you go to TX. I remember the original tensei orange TX that felt like rebar

It's just a combo to play around with.

I love the Ventus Blue 6s velecore but can't afford it atm. Any idea if the Tensei AV Blue 65 x-flex will be a cheap alternative?

I know the aftermarket shafts play stiffer to flex also than stock, so part of me is curious if the Tensei in x might be closer? @Valtiel any thoughts?

This is me right now….

With age increasing / swing speed decreasing I’ve literally just swapped over (Dr, 3w and 2 x hybrids) from a Stiff-tipped / harsher feeling / low launch etc shafts in X-flex  - to Grafalloy Pro-Launch Blue in X-Flex.

These are softer feeling shaft, and have a soft tip designed to aid launch. I’ve also inserted them straight in with no tipping.

**In my prime my swingspeed was 115mph with a driver. I’m now at 105’ish. And was starting to feel the old shafts were too much unless I was really on it and swinging well. Hence the change….

Not enough games under my belt to fully quantify yet. But just heading out for my 3rd game with them - so may well update my thoughts later….

Good luck ⛳

There is a decent precedent for trying something like this, yeah, especially since you already saw positive results.

I'll PM you another suggestion because there are some extremely good deals on some stuff in a similar category that popped up online recently.

The AV Raw Blue will not play like the Ventus Blue.  I can tell you from having the Ventus Blue and testing the AV Raw Blue that the AV will play softer in the tip and will spin more.  Whereas the Ventus flattened out for me, the AV spun too much for me and I was prone to hitting the high spinner.  If you are going to go with the AV, I would advise you to tip it quite a bit to bring spin down.

Shafts don't provide propulsion into the shot so as long as your launch numbers are good you can play whatever shaft flex suits your need for feel.  Some people need to feel some flex in the shaft during the swing and playing a shaft that's too stiff and not providing them the feedback they want will result in the person overswinging.  This is an individual thing and the best way to discover your personal sweet spot is though experimentation.
