Let me just hit a test shot, what could go wrong (or right)...

Well done!!!  Too bad it wasn't a regulation HOI.  Hopefully it came out of the middle and the flight was just like you drew it up but even a skanked HOI is cool.

Very lucky it stayed in.  I had one fly in from 115 on a PAR 3 and it shot straight up then landed 6ft away (I made the putt).

I'm surprised you didn't buy that club on the spot.

It was amazing, honestly.  Nice, high, straight ball flight, struck perfectly, right at it and in.  Just grazed the front edge of the cup on the way in and the slight breeze into us may have just pinched it in the cup enough to stay.

It does have me wondering if I do want some new irons though…. On true WRX’er fashion…

Hmm, not sure I quite read the complete thread the same way you did...  however, if you want to come play a round at my course, I will buy you a drink, @PorkChopExpress!

For an Amat. the odds are 1 in 12,750.  That means you only have another 3,187 more rounds to play before you do it again if you play courses with 4 Par 3’s.  Depending on your age, health and number of rounds you play per year you might want to start hitting a dozen or so balls at each Par 3 to ensure you eventually do it again…Lol

I feel and share your pain though.  Saturday, I got cheated out of a HIO too.  However, mine was the regulation ball I hit from the tee box from about 148.  My absolutely perfectly struck ball never went in the cup like yours did but it should have.  My ball hit perfectly against an improperly installed cup that some Maintenance staff member didn’t correctly install 1” below the surface.  Had the cup been installed properly, the dirt at the edge of the hole would have given away and my ball would have at least went into the cup on the fly.  It might not have stayed in but there’s a good chance it would have.  Picture below with ball mark at center leading edge of hole was taken standing at the 3 o’clock position at the hole.  The other picture is a properly installed cup.  The Golf Gods can be very cruel but at least I have a cool story too.

That is unfortunate!  As with most things in golf, you have to play what it is and not what it should have been.  Part of the fun, part of the frustration that is this game we love!  Some things that should happen, just don't;  some things that shouldn't happen, just do!

I hope that I find my real one in less than 3187 rounds from now and, on the bright side, you didn't use yours up there!  In probability terms, you are still within the 12,750 pool of shots!  Of course, probabilities are just that...  I have a friend that had two hole in ones just a few weeks apart this summer...  so, I am hopeful another opportunity is just around the corner!

When I read the title, it reminded me of something totally different. Way back when the Callaway ERC first game out. There was a huge buzz around it. One of the assistant pros at our club got one. One of the guys was non-stop asking to have a hit. Eventually he gets one and he proceeds to hit the worst sky I have ever seen. The shiny new ERC was scuffed horrendously. The guy ended up taking the club to a local respray shop where they were able to sort it out and it looked as good as new but man, after that I have always been wary of letting anyone hit one of my clubs.
