Garmin S64 Watch??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have and s40 and really enjoy it. But I’m considering buying an S62 for the additional off course functionality (as well as the additional on course options).

before I pull the trigger, does anyone know when we would expect the s64 to come out?

S60 was released June 2017 and the S62 was released January 2020...so 2.5 years.

What on course and of course functionality are you looking for?  I currently use a Garmin Vivoactive 3 and find it sufficient for scorekeeping, shot tracking, and very general distances.  I don't wear it other than when golfing, or maybe on the off chance I go for a run.  On course, I will always use a range finder to confirm anyway because I've found that GPS accuracy can be hit or miss at any given time.  Just this past weekend I had my watch tell me it was 150 to the center of the green and 135 to the front.  Lasered the flag and it was 131 to the flag, and it was a middle pin position.

For that reason, I don't put full trust in GPS as a whole.  I do find the shot tracking feature and distance from your last shot to be very helpful when looking for and errant shot.  Can't tell you how many times I'm looking for my drive under some trees and I look at my watch to find a "reasonable" distance from the tee to narrow down my search area that speeds up the ball finding process.  Or other times where my playing partners are "guesstimating" their point of entry into a hazard, and they're asking me "so about here?"  And I'm like "well, we're about 290 from the tee box according to my watch, so yeah, whatever you think..."  LOL.

The only reason I'd consider the S62 is the claimed battery life, which is basically double the Vivoactive 3.  Sometimes I forget to charge the watch in between Saturday/Sunday rounds and the battery is only good enough for 1 full round and maybe 30% juice left after.

Old thread but I've also been curious as to whether Garmin is going to release a new version soon.  It seems about the right time with the S62 now 2 1/2 years old.  That said, I'm not really sure what they would improve.  I own the S62 and really like it.  The battery life is absolutely amazing.  It allows me to play multiple rounds on one charge.

The only thing that really bothers me, which should be an easy fix but Garmin won't seem to do it, is to allow the user to change the order of functions.  For example, round info is something I access frequently and to get to that function, I have to scroll down every time past other functions I rarely use.  The other thing I would really like is my score visible on the main screen.  Seems like it would be easy to add a small "+3" or something similar so that I can see my score quickly without having to click on scorecard or round info.

As for slope, I own the S62 and have never seen that feature.  The wind could be a useful feature, but at least for me, it often seems inaccurate.  For example, I click on "wind" and it shows to my back when it's really to my face.  I don't know if maybe the wind changes too often where I live (Tampa, FL).  Nonetheless, I don't use the feature much because I can't rely on it to give me accurate readings.
