Logo position on driver shaft

I'm  getting ready to install  my Hzrdus Smoke Black shaft in my Callaway driver.

A guy asked me if I was going to install it 'logo down '.

He said that seems to be  the most popular way.

It never occurred to me.

Usually, I am careful with grip alignment, but the shaft just turns out wherever.

 Do y'all  think about this?

With some of the adapters, a change  can move the location of the logo.

I believe logo down is pretty much standard.  Had to make that call a couple years ago and had never thought of it specifically.  Looked through (far too many) old clubs and logo down across the board (if not a full wrap).

Got a PXG driver this winter and tried the flat setting (which rotates the shaft fully, so logo up) - looked VERY strange and off-putting immediately.

I installed my iron shafts so the logo was down, but I adjust my driver so depending on my swing and mood, the logo could be anywhere.

I have never seen a driver shaft purposely installed branding/label up. OEM drivers dont come this way and I have never installed one as such by default or by request.

There are very few shafts out there that have some sort of branding/labeling that is visible at address but there is always one side with the shaft stiffness and weight etc and that always points down.

Moved adapter position to lower launch and spin earlier in the season. Switched golf balls, adjusted hosel position to accommodate new launch and spin numbers.  Never once considered or noticed graphics on shaft. Driver is a WEAPON - logo, not so much

Doesn't really matter to me because I tend to focus on the club's alignment and the ball at the address. I never notice if the shaft's logo is up or down. Heck I haven't removed some shaft labels yet. Here's my 58* that I had bought back in March. I never noticed it until someone asked me WTH I'm doing just recently so I took this picture.

+100. Generally all OEMs install w/ shaft logo down on their OTR clubs.

But even when I get custom shafts to install, I've always wanted logo down. No desire to look at it when I'm addressing a ball.

One exception. Just ordered two Miura wedges. One of the options was to have the shaft "pured" on the SST machine. I certainly have heard about it, but have never had it done before. Makes a lot of sense. Will try these when they arrive (the totally hosed global supply chain means that will be a month or two from now grrrrr). May get at least my Driver and fairways done as well.

Thing is, this seems like it would render the placement of the logo irrelevant. The shaft will be inserted into the clubhead in a way that optimizes the structural physics of the shaft itself, rather than where the logo happens to wind up. Apparently most of the top guys on Tour are doing this now.

(Pssst: Anyone here using pured shafts?)

Has to has to had to be logo down.

I’ll be honest, I have messed around with the Surefit adapter on my TS3 and it might well have been that moving it from A1 to another setting might have favoured my shot shape but in part, I didn’t/couldn’t do it because it would have meant seeing the logo of the shaft and the distraction of that would have sent me over the edge.

People definitely do.  On this forum, filled with gear obsessed golfers, you will find that people feel strongly about many things that may seem ridiculous to you.  Not sure why you would find it “ridiculous” that some people might be distracted by, or not want to look at the logos.  I could care less, but I would never consider the fact that others care about it “ridiculous”.

I used to never think about it.  Then I was trying to sell a driver and the guy was definitely put off by the graphics being visible.  A lot of people find it distracting.  Even though it doesn’t bother me I always try to instal them so the logo will be down, as eventually it will get sold.  It seems that what is generally considered the correct way to do it is considered logo down.

I hate seeing a logo on the grip. But I only look at my hands and the club head, so the bit in the middle gets ignored.

I would think if a builder were to take the time (and charge the $) to pure, he would also be fastidious enough to apply all the labels after the puring process, ensuring a uniform + professional looking install.  Not doing so would show a lack of attention to detail that would leave me unsettled - particularly having paid for/sought out a skill + service that promises heightened attention to detail.

Don't blame you, it'll come off soon due to this thread, lol!

A friend of mine's feels the same way as you do, doesn't even like it when someone touches his clubs. Everyone is different, nothing wrong with it.

I have been fooling around with building clubs since the late 70's and at first I always installed shafts and grips label up.  I did some attempts at spine aligning of shafts with labels already on them and those would end up anywhere.  In the end it does not matter to me but if I was building a club for someone who wanted label down or whatever then that is what I would do.  I did end up with label up on my current driver because I thought that the shaft worked a little better in that orientation.  Probably just kidding myself though!

Spot on correct. Issue is, however, who does the puring. The Miuras I ordered had SST Puring as an option ($30 extra). If that meant they bought pured shafts from the OEM, I'd expect the logos to be aligned. If, however, Miura buys basic shafts and pures them itself to order, the shaft logo would already be there. Miura certainly wouldn't be putting logos on shafts themselves. In fact, they couldn't - logos are increasingly part of the shaft manufacturing process ... e.g., I don't know how they do it, but the logos on the Tensei shafts on my driver/FWs seems baked into the shaft. It isn't a sticker that could be removed.

I suspect, at least with Miura (possibly others that offer this), it is the latter. They had a lot of shaft options. Can't see them getting shafts made to order from the OEMs, nor can I see them carrying a double inventory, i.e., a pured and non-pured version of each shaft.

I couldn't care less where the logo is as long as the shaft isn't bent or cracked.
