Putting start line

WestCoastGolf

Recommended Posts

Hey all, going crazy with some putting training, and hoping I might be able to get some tips or pointers to help make some corrections.

I can do a very good job of putting the ball end over end however, when I put a gate out for the ball to roll through I continually hit the right tee.

Attached is the aid I am using with the tees installed in the setting that I have no problem rolling the ball through. But when I move the tees to the smaller spots I always hit the tee where the circle is.

I would appreciate any feedback or tips that could help me dial in my start line.

Couple of questions:

1. Is it a straight putt you're hitting? If it isn't, it's likely that you're subconsciously adjusting your start line to where you think it is.

2. When you aren't using the training aid are you missing putts to the right? If you aren't, then there's something funky going on with the training aid that doesn't happen when you play normally. Maybe you typically aim left and push it, so now that you're forced to aim straight by the lines, you're pushing it still. If you are, then you need to close the face more 🙂

1) It’s a straight putt as evidenced by the Perfect Putter I used to set up my spot. And it goes straight when I have the tees in the wider spot on the plate. It must still be going a little right (I would assume) with the wider gate, if I hit the right tee when it is in the smaller position?

2) I don’t seem to have a normal miss with putts. Usually my speed is off, but I can pull or push putts at anytime. I’ll have to pay closer attention to whether I do one more than the other.

Have a look at this

This is excellent drill.  Been using it for few weeks and I’m started to imagine an entry path to the hole on 3-4 footers

Builds confidence

Also one of the I found out about myself was if I lift or hover the putter just before my backstroke I was able to keep putter face square to the entry path

If I rest the putter on the ground sometime face would be open

Oh I hate those kind of training aids.... I hit em all the time too and I putt like a champ 🦆

Yep. I like the tees for the putter to go through. But the ones for the ball to roll through are not for me.  You can make miles of putts while hitting either of the narrow tees.  Especially if you hook them a hair.

I think you have to see putts as straight lines to use those. I see the path of the ball. Not a straight line to the apex.

Take a video of yourself putting. There are 3 main reasons to miss putts consistently on one side.

Aimed wrong

Consistently cutting across the ball

poor acceleration/deceleration profile.

I have absolutely no problem putting through tees with the putter. Only when I have the tees essentially touching the head do I normally hit one. The tees for the ball are becoming the bane of my putting..lol. I like to think I see putts as a straight line, but only after I read the putt in which case I try to "follow" the ball from start to hole. Then I like to find the apex and see it as straight from there.

I will get a video set up to look for these possible issues. Thanks for the info! Sometimes I know for sure that I pull or push my putt, but when I hit these with what I feel is a good putt...it's maddening sometimes!
