Cantlay is playing some subtle mind games with the Euros

He started yesterday with his Gin Rummy analogy, essentially telling he Euros that they have been lucky to put the streak together that they have.  Today he followed up by calling out the Euros for always controlling the narrative and playing their "Woe is me, we're always the underdogs". which Paul McGinley confirmed - yes they always play that narrative.

These aren't huge salvos, but they're the kinds of subtle mind games that we haven't seen from the Americans in the past and if the Euros miss a few putts, it's the kind of thing that can anchor in the mind and create disbelief.

I know most of these guys are friends on the other side, but I wish they would ratchet up the rhetoris a little bit more.

  • King_Slender changed the title to Cantlay is playing some subtle mind games with the Euros

Cantlay sounds confident and maybe making sure he is distanced from the failures of the past and styling a “new sheriff in town” attitude moving forward. Just has to back it up!

Cantlay to Strick, “Don’t pair me with any losers.”

His "mind game" look solid right now for sure, him and Xander are beating the taste out of the Rory/Poulter duo.

A bag of left-handed junk.

Stricker needs to bench Jordan this afternooon. He's playing like absolute dog****

Stricker said the pairings in the afternoon are already decided regardless of the outcomes in the morning. I don't agree with this, you bench players playing poorly.

Though most remember Cantlay losing the US Am lol

And Kelly Kraft has been so successful since he beat Cantlay in the US Am finals.

TBH most people remember Cantlay mud stomping the PGA Tour over the last month. Have your actually been paying attention?

But hey great job by you trolling every thread tonight and running your post count up! 🤮

His biggest mind game is just his golf. If he's ahead and you think you're catching him, suddenly he sinks a 20 foot double breaking putt. If he's behind and you think you've got him beat, suddenly he's breathing down your neck again. He's got this knack of being a momentum-killer. And does it most of the time without even the hint of even a facial expression. Don't see many woohoo Arsenio Hall arm whoops from him. Just meanders up to the ball and hits it like it ain't no thang. Anyone playing him knows they'll need to beat him, he's not going to fold like a cheap suit under pressure and just give it to you.

That can be immensely more intimidating than any trash talking the more expressive guys engage in.

Cantlay is playing every but as good as the world #1 and he's got the moxie to pull it off. His presence alone is enough of a mind game for the Euros

Imagine playing against a guy you know can throw down like eleven 25 foot putts in a single round and not even blink

When I see those golfer and wife pics I am reminded of a certain old Disney movie I saw together shortly after the premiere with my girlfriend, now wife on a London trip in the early 90's. Guess we also kind of  fitted in, as a pair. ( Heard a bomb exploding on our way back to the hotel, it was those years...)

I have to admit, I had no idea who Cantlay really was prior to this week. I mean, I was familiar with his credentials as a player, I’m talking about who he is as a person. The guy is composed, fiery, and most of all, thoughtful and articulate. We all know Ryder Cups are unique and bring out something different based on their sheer nature, but his have instantly became a must watch press conference from here on out.

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
