so i bought a heel shafted 8802 style w countweight and grip. putting and distance control is way off

long story short i putt best with heel shafted putters with about 6 o'clock toe hang

i play my putters around 501grams overall weight with a pistol grip anyways my backup

putter is nearly identical except i purchased it with a counterbalanced weight on the grip.

This putter is around 100 grams heavier at 600 grams. ive had this putter before and used

to putt so well with it now although the weight felt good I putted terribly with it today.

No feel and distance control was spotty, either short or long. i would push the shortish

putts and even caught myself hitting off center and pushing it several times.

this is my first and only round with a counterbalanced putter. do i take it out and try to get

used to it or not? are there types of golfers who shouldn't be using a counterbalanced putter?

thanks in advance.

If that extra 100g is in the handle and that's a 330g head you'll have zero feel in the head. It's going to feel like nothing and your stroke is going to be awful.

Counter balance isn't bad It's just usually done with something a bit heavier, you can counter balance that head i just wouldn't go much over 25g extra in the handle for something that light.

Im using an epon zen and the head weight is 357 grams. Heavier than normal 8802 Style heads which are in the 330 gram range.

Even at 357g putting an extra 100g in the handle is a lot.

What's the full setup? Length, grip, weight in handle, etc?

That's quite a bit in the handle, that grip is between 55 and 75g depending on the size so 135 to 155g in the handle of a 357g putter.

I'd ditch that 80g weight and go with maybe a 20g or if it's the 75g weight that could be enough.

There is no set numbers in counterbalance it's all on feel and results so you may have to play around with it a bit.

Thanks. I plan to restore the putter to its original form and just play it normally. No reason for me to shift to a counterbalanced putter. Thanks for the advice.

No problem if you're going to remove the weight just be aware of whatever grip you put on, a lot of people unintentionally counterbalance a putter by putting on a 100g+ grip and wonder why it feels bad.

just an update and the putter is so much better, I have better distance control and sank more putts yesterday. Im not sure if its placebo but overall more confident with it, also SW is E0 than the previous B-ish. I know sw doesnt matter in putters but i feel a big difference and that difference is all i need:) Thanks everyone
