Shallowing the club - just another "over the top" fixer?

Dude was the premier swing coach in the 90's, his work with Faldo was somewhat revolutionary. Not sure what he's up to today has anything to do with that? I merely brought him up to refute a claim that shallowing the club is a modern philosophy. In any event, I'm not a fan of his, personally he's always given me the creeps. Lol

I don't know what a TPI consultant is and don't live in the States but thanks nonetheless. I also don't have an over the top move I fixed it by learning to push off my right leg as many pros have  recommended.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

 

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

Look you're just extremely confused. It's pretty clear you don't even know what shallowing the shaft refers to– it's not a move to fix being over the top at all. Post a video of your swing- let's see your magic move.

I think google is your friend here, but…

 

TPI is titliest performance institute. It’s fairly new-ish concept (like last 10-15 years) where instructors are trained to look at the average golfer and apply concepts where they are needed. For instance, the lack of shoulder/wrist mobility in a 62 year old retiree is not conducive to the “natural” shallowing of the downswing. A TPI instructor would then provide swing matchups to be able to overcome this mobility issue.

I have discussed that the downswing swing plane should be flatter/shallower than the backswing plane numerous times. I also never said I had a magic move.

 

I think it would be better to read the posts from the beginning of the thread that way there is no confusion.

That was Manny de La Torres swing advice. However, I'm sure there are other ways to swing a club but to say that Manny's swing method is wrong is not true, it's just different from the way you swing the club. 

 

As far as Manny's method goes it does reduce tension in the hands and arms and one can generate considerable clubhead speed. For example I'm 56 and 5'6 and can swing over 110 with my driver w/o swinging too hard.

Believe it or not I agree the downswing should be on a shallower plane, yes it's true I have said this from the beginning.

 

My point was that shallowing the clubhead at any cost to the body is not a permanent fix. I think the best way is to change the mechanics of the takeaway or something along those lines.

 

This thread has runs its course I don't have time to address all of the things I supposedly said.
