Crew socks

Noticing some of the US caddies sporting crew socks at the Ryder cup. My 19 year old son wears them and laughs at my no shows. Anybody bit the bullet and gamed a pair?

Styles always change ... coming and going and then coming back around ...  I was born in '80.  We wore crew length socks with shorts like all the cool kids when I was a teenager, but in college the style changed to no-shows.  Now I'm seeing all the cool kids wearing crew length again.  Soon enough the style will change again.  To each his own.

On the courses in my area, with shorts this look is worn almost exclusively by the under age ~ 25 crowd. I don't know if it's supposed to be ironic or what.  It's not for me.

 

Just when the last of the geezers who were secretly ridiculed for years for wearing crew socks with shorts finally switched to no-shows, the kids are trying to bring them back. lol.

most crews were black, white or those sad argyles.

new styles certainly play a factor.

 

the patterns and graphics are pretty cool.

I've been wondering when to try out a few pair given as gifts.

 

you wear some, your buddy notices and gets some, maybe - it catches on.

Back in the day crew socks had different color stripes--- I used to mismatch the colors on purpose. I guess my sorta version of a fashion statement---- now days I do not even wear socks period with shorts. But then again being retired outside the golf course I wear Crocs and play golf in Sketchers--- Now if it does get chilly in the winter here I will wear socks with Crocs.

Why not crews?  As long as they have some style to them, and don't look like mundane dress socks.   Fashion trends change constantly.  What's considered a faux pas today, becomes the new hotness tomorrow.  If one is paying attention, crews with sneakers is a thing.  Why not with golf shoes?  If <insert favorite golf fashionista> showed up with crews, peeps around here would be inquiring about the brand and where they could score a pair.

 

Anyhow.  Where I whack it around, doubt anyone is paying attention to the type of socks (?) I'm wearing.  If they do?  I.  Don't.  Care.  

 

Some are confusing crew socks with tube socks.  To entirely different creatures.  Not ready to return to tube socks.  Not a good look for an old guy.  Guess it depends on who's doing the wearing.

Fashions always change.  Sock length is fashion.  Socks can only get longer, so they will.  You can bet the ranch on that.

I will never, ever, wear crew socks with shorts.  That goes for on or off the golf course.  Can't understand why anyone would want that sock tan at the pool in the summer. haha

I wore them yesterday feeling as goofy as I thought my Dad looked when I was a kid wearing no shows, they are the style

Well I think that looks a lot cooler than some ratty old white ankle socks.  And I'm a conservative man in my mid 60s.  Those billboard kinds won't take over, but I sure bet longer socks are in our future.

Proper golf attire for men is long pants, with which are paired crew length socks.

Max Homa wears them and makes them look good. Fashion is cyclical. People get tired of a look, try out a different look and enjoy it because they feel unique. Then it becomes fashionable for a while until people tire of it again.

I've been wearing crew socks with shorts for a long time - a couple of decades at least. For me, it's because it's something I got comfortable doing being a tennis player all my life - it's a standard thing there. Same reason I generally wear my shirt untucked, too. It's just how I'm most comfortable in terms of feel and my own perception of how it looks.

 

I'll wear socks that are just above the ankle occasionally, but mostly its crews with shorts.

 

I never wear no shows - never liked that look at all.

 

(And I'm not one of the young kids either. Just a personal preference I've had for a long time.)
