Lets just wait until 23 before we go making plans on changing the format. This was a blood bath for sure, but its happened to the US too.  Lets just enjoy this year.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Eh, if Westwood plays like he did in the spring and Rory shows up at all Friday and Saturday this thing could have been totally different and Poulter’s singles win the pivotal point and Harrington is a genius. Captains get too much credit and blame in this event. The players dictate 100% of the outcome.

Well, I do think you play McIlroy no matter what.  He's just too good to sit down for very long.  But captain's picks are very much on the captain.  And it's a heckuva thing thinking winning the 7th match of a session that started with an 11-5 deficit would justify his pick *if* stuff happens.  But Poulter and McIlroy got blasted on Friday in fourball.  So why send them out again?

These aren't robots that you can just mix and match and get the same results.  The captains can and do have an impact.  How do we not know that Harrington's decisions on picks or pairings didn't deflate the team?  They got blasted.  Surely it can't all be down to "simply didn't play well enough."  Maybe the guys who would have played well enough spent more time on the bench than they should have?  Or pairs were not done well.  Rahm and Garcia were unbeatable.  That can't simply be due to just playing better.  That was the one pairing he didn't break up(I don't count rd 2 because at 41, Garcia could not play all 5).

But whatever.  It's an exhibition at the end of the day.

The Hojgaards or Bob Macyntire or Willet or Pieters or Kinhult or Horsfield aint enough to stop the US from dominating the next 10-15 years. Better hope Sergio and the older crew has one more good Ryder Cup left in them.

Give Hojgaards some time.

Geez... they were born in only 2001.

Someone called here already, combine the Ryder and presidents, it’s all an exhibition anyways

Eastern vs. Western Hemisphere. The US team can pick up an occasional Canadian, or South or Central American.  Abraham Ancer comes to mind,

It was a sign of the times that the 2020 British Open (spelling is correct) was cancelled for the insurance money. The US has taken golf to the next level and Europe is getting lapped, even if they don't realize it yet. Golf is still a country club game in Europe, so while the elite buy their $900 Team Euro Ryder Cup polos, golf has become a game of the people here in the US. Many times more people are playing, the competition is much tougher at all levels. The best Euro players are basically Americans, Rahm went to school in the US and lives here, Rors live here, etc. If you want to play elite golf, no matter where you were born, you come to play in the USA.

If Europe wants to change that they need to start from square one. No easy way out.

That’s right. We in America only charge $300 for our team-issued Ryder Cup clothing.

Europe picks some odd courses for the Ryder Cup.  It would be nice to see some classics picked.   Valderrama was good, the Belfry was odd that it got multiples.  How about a links? it could be one that’s not in the normal Open rota.  France?  Italy?  Lame.

I get they are trying to bring it to other countries but hardly anyone these countries cares about golf.  Keep it in the UK.  Or Ireland.

Interesting.  I do think the men in some of the Asian countries will continue to get more competitive on the world stage.  Matsuyama may have opened the floodgates.  China could explode as well. The South Africans have some good young talent. What happened to Australia?

Japanese players tend to do well against foreign players in the Dunlop Phoenix or Japan Open events.

Although at the ZOZO when Tiger won, I think most of the selected Japanese players did not do well besides Matsuyama.

This is a perfectly legitimate question. They are aging out. I’m a diehard golf fan

and I have no idea who is going to step up and take the place of the Westwoods, Clarks, Harringtons, Garcia’s, Poulters, etcetera.

The problem with those two is that they are very imposing figures. Team sports, even the Ryder Cup, has a totally different dynamic. Tiger was the ultimate lone

wolf. What made him great as an individual made him a lousy partner. Sad but true.

What did Harrington do wrong? Almost everything. What was he yapping about pre Cup? Something about the best team of "ball-strikers Europe ever had". He might have but he didn't use them right.

- Picked Buddy's like Poults, who I love, but probably didn't deserve that spot. Buddy Ball at its finest.

- Played Rahmbo and Sergio together when he should have split them among other pairings to maximize their impact.

- Kept putting out guys like Casey and Westy when, Wiesburger, Hovland and Fleetwood should have played every match. Lowrey should have played more.

- He sat Rory when he should have rode him like a rented mule, played every match. You sink or swim with your best players and he didn't.

- should have recruited. Gone out and begged Europe's proven players to play their way on the team. Guys like Willett, Rose, Noren, Molinari, Stenson. Proven guys who might have been motivated to sharpen their games more. He should have started months and months ago. Did he do anything like that?

-the Euro qualification sucks. He should have pushed for more captains picks. Thankfully it wasn't this year or Harrington would probably have selected someone like Donald or Gmac. Oof!

There's a start, I'm sure there's more reasons. He'll be infamously remembered as the Euro captain on the side that gave up a 100 record points. 🤮

Begged those guys to play their way on when he could have used them as captain’s picks? Those guys would have gotten run over just as easily.

Not trying to argue mate, you're probably right. We know whatever Harrington did was wrong regardless of if he could have won or not. It's quite the embarrassment to infamously be remembered as the captain of the worst losing European bunch ever. Especially when he came with the best European ball strikers of all time....his words

It's not an unintelligent suggestion considering the opposite worked so well for Harrington. Discounting options is stoopid. Congrats on Paddy's superior intelligence.

Yes, it really is.

Mmmmm, wonder why Seve and Ollie worked so well? But no, if we split them up they’ll magically win with anyone else …. or is it that they are a great …. team?

Stop what, you started with the unintelligent BS. Quite rudely I might add.

I would contend it's not that far fetched. You have the number 1 player in the world and one of the best ever Ryder cup players of all time. Both with good  form. You're outgunned and an underdog. Playing them together nets you at best one point per session. Separating them gives you a chance at two points per session. Each have the ability to carry a pairing, especially Rahmbo. Getting two points is better than one. Ya know, basic math? It's stupid not to consider it.

So you can stop unless you have a better idea how to maximize points from the two players carrying your team. I thought so...shut up.

I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
