Do you run Stricker right back in 2 years in Rome?

The answer has been known for a few years. There is a process in place. Stricker said so and said he won’t, and he won’t. Look at the Vice Captains and you are looking at future Captains.

Yep, this is probably true.

Im sure Strick would actually like to play some golf too.  He's never really been able to fully commit to a schedule on the Champions Tour for almost 3 years now.

No. I like Steve Stricker too much to have things go bad in Italy and have him take the blame. Go out on top!

Agree here. I’m fine with running him out.  But you run the enormous risk of having him take the blame if the impending hype machine fails.    The pressure on the next one will be x 100 of this one.  They’re now expected to win big. It won’t be this easy next time.  The Europeans will come back with some youth.

Why?

since Stricker is now the new benchmark on RC Captain selection...lets take a look at Kuchar's RC resume

# of Ryder Cup team- Four

Four Ball record 3-2-2

Foursome- 2-2-0

Singles - 1-3-0

major championships won - ZERO

PGA Championship- Zero Top 5 finishes

Number of times selected as Vice Captain- ?

I don't often make predictions however I will make this one.  Zero chance Captain Stricker is Captain again in 2023. Zero... he said he won't do it and it doesn't work that way either.  A US Captain hasn't repeated consecutively since the 1940's.

Not according to the annals of WRX.  This marks your 64th prediction.   Your 53rd prediction was spot on.

You predicted Greg Norman would get 7 figures for his Renoir and he did.  Well done.

I was wondering how much the captains get paid, also the players? The event generates so much money off these guys.

Zippo.  They get to designate a gift to a charity.  TW and Phil raised a furor a decade ago about the players getting stiffed while the RC rakes in multi-millions of $$$.

Johnson seems to be the likely candidate for Rome.  I'd imagine the PGA wants Phil and Tiger to captain home matches, so the '27 match is anyone's guess.  Freddie has either insulted, or poured sugar into the gas tank of every member of the PGA of America (apparently), so he has no shot.

I think Zach is the man. Great player, interviews well, knows all the players. Couples has no chance. Far too old and too easy going.

Doesnt get too much easier than Stricker except Fred, Fred is going to be a captain if he wants it.

I think respect towards the captain goes a long way towards RC captain selection moving forward.  To a man, everyone in that room likes and respects Stricker, no major not withstanding....which was why he was selected.  At age 53/54, if he had played a full PGA Tour schedule this past season instead of bouncing around between the PGA Tour, the Champions Tour, and his RC responsibilities, he would have almost certainly made the FedEx playoffs.  He almost beat Koepka and Xander at Phoenix earlier this year in a stroke play event (which was one of the strongest fields of the season last year), and if Brooks doesnt chip that one in at 17, he might have well won that thing.  The 'legitimacy', for lack of a better word, goes a long way in the team room when the guys on the team know that the captain could probably tee it up and beat some of them.

Its not clear how ZJ, who I assume will now captain the team in Rome, is felt amongst his peers.  But Stricker certainly laid the framework moving forward for this group of guys who will make up the centerpiece of the US RC teams for the next decade.  Hopefully ZJ, Phil, and Tiger have all taken notes.

I've changed my mind, Ted Lasso should be named the permanent head coach.

If the PGA of America is smart , which is sometimes questionable, they need to keep the fan engagement going !

No offense to Steve Stricker , but his news conferences where like watching the rough grow at Whistling Straits! Some of the interactions seemed forced, the tee shirt cannon thing on the first tee for example.  I think he has a 0% chance of back to back Captainships, get one for your resume and out the door and a wave to the crowd.

As far as the obvious choices in the pipeline would be Fred Couples , and you would be crazy not to have Phil at Bethpage!

31/61 = 0.503.

40/70 = 0.573

A 30 year gap becomes a smaller relative difference over time.

If you are 30 and you marry an 18 year old, her older brothers may beat you up.

If you are 70 and she is 58, her brothers will probably buy you a drink.

Oohhh, it's all relative.  ???

She's STILL 12 years younger than you. Relativity really doesn't make a difference. The cultural differences are still there.
