Sim Max fairway cracked speed pocket

Recommended Posts

I heard a different sound today when I hit my Sim Max 5 Wood. I looked at it and it cracked on the bottom of the face at the speed pocket. Anyone else have this issue? Makes me think twice about replacing it with a Sim2. I bought it new last August and had an aftermarket shaft put into it, so I’m sure there’s nothing TM will do about it. Just sucks that it split after only a year.

Take it in to the place you bought it from.  I just cracked the face on my SIM driver and took it back in.  They sent it in to get replaced, but did say I wouldn't be able to get another SIM, likely the SIM2, and it could take 8-10 weeks due to shortages.  Sucks, but hey, I'll wait.  I'll be looking for a cheap short term replacement in the meantime.

I don’t mind waiting since here in MA my golf season is likely coming to and end in the next month or so. I called them and let them know what happened. They know me well since I only buy my equipment from them. But I did have them install an aftermarket shaft for me, and I’m figuring TM will say that voids any warranty. Hopefully not, but I figure it will. That’s awesome of them to replace your driver👍

Cracked my OG Sim driver 3wks ago Sunday (5 Sep). Filled out the warranty form same day. Got an approval email on 7 Sep. FedEx on 8 Sep. Replacement arrived today, 27 Sep. I only sent the head. They sent me a brand new Sim2 with shaft.

Props to TM for fast and excellent customer service. I am very pleased. Really easy process.

My concern is since I had an after market shaft installed it will not be covered under warranty. I don’t see how that should matter since it’s the head, but I’m not sure.

Did you order the original direct from TM, or did you purchase it from a pro shop?

Your concern is real.  They can say since it was not shafted by them or a authorized builder(True Spec, Club Champion etc.) the head was damaged in the removal of the old shaft. All you can do is contact TM and see what they say.  Be prepared to lose your aftermarket shaft.

It won’t.

my buddy purchased an M5 off of Facebook marketplace late 2019.

purchased an aftermarket shaft about 6 months later.

1 week with shaft the driver head cracks on the weight slot on the sole. Full TM warranty for a Sim driver. He said that he bought a shaft aftermarket and didn’t want to lose it. They sent a head only sim replacement. He returned the M5 head only.

I would just let them know you don’t want to lose the shaft and they can take it from there on next steps.

They can keep the shaft. I’m not concerned. I have others I can put in. My pro shop is legit (Dave Diricos in MA), but it’s not big like Club Champion. I’m expecting a total loss, but I can hope🙏🏻

But that’s a removable shaft. Not a glue in shaft

Contact TM’s warranty service. Be clear that you want to keep your shaft. If they tel you it’s not going to work. Don’t warranty it.

go to a reputable dealer/fitter, pull the head and try again.

there is nothing wrong with trying, if it doesn’t work out, say, “I’m not willing to lose my $$$$ shaft, I’d rather just buy a new head myself.”

I cracked my Sim 2 earlier this year and TM just had me send them the head and I kept my shaft. I also have bought a ping 3 wood on ebay and cracked it but ping still replaced it.

I am not sure TM is going to care about the shaft especially since it is not bonded.

It’s a 5 wood, though. Not a driver. The shaft is bonded

I'd still try them. I am not sure a crack in the speed pocket would be attributed to a shaft install. Not exactly the same, but the speed pocket is where my driver ended up cracking. I think they would still be interested in replacing the head, but I would note wanting to keep the shaft

UPDATE:

Brought it back to the pro shop I bought it from. They sent a pic of the head to their rep. He’s sending a Sim2 to replace it. The shop pulled my shaft and installed it into a Sim2 that they had in stock. They put the stock shaft from the Sim2 into my cracked head. They’re sending that back and will replace the one they gave me today with the replacement that they’ll receive from TM. So I got a new club today without having to wait. This is exactly why I shop exclusively at this local pro shop who are all about customer service. Talk about going above and beyond.
