New budget garage build

Recommended Posts

Here’s a time lapse of step 1 of the build:

I plan to build it up over time but this is the first big step!

Well... technically this is the second big step. In order to make room overhead I had a jack-shaft garage lift installed replacing the Traditional overhead equipment. That purchase set me back a bit on budget so I am buying cheap materials where I can.

Done:

Screen: 9x12 basic screen on clearance from Carl’s place7 - $200

Bungees: Carl’s place - $50

Hitting mat: used grade B from rawhide golf - $160

Various building materials - $60

Still to do:

Launch Monitor: not sure which I’m going to buy yet but I want to go camera based.

projector: any suggestions?

putting green: Not sure when I’ll get to this.

Let me know what you think! Any suggestions are very much appreciated

I’ll update this thread as I add more goodies 🙂

looks like $600 worth of lumber in there! lol

How much was the garage opener?  I am considering moving my unit as well, my son has hit ours already.  I have another 18" to raise it up so I might go that route but I'm not sure if it will affect how the door opens

No the lumber was pretty cheap! Plus i had some left over from other projects.

The garage opener on the other hand cost me $1500... You could get out of it way cheaper if you install it yourself but in my case the door had to basically be re-built and the guy was at it for 3 hours.

I did not actually raise the garage though if that is what you are thinking. All i did was have one of these jackshaft lifts installed https://www.amazon.com/Chamberlain-RJO20-Direct-Mounted-Saving/dp/B07H4BGY1W/ref=asc_df_B07H4BGY1W/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312115148598&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9966701169957171007&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003212&hvtargid=pla-573636753344&psc=1

It just clamps on to the torsion spring bar and rotates to lift the door where as the normal system pulls from the middle and hangs over-head.

I was just joking about the lumber, I am in that industry and prices have been insane lately.

I like that opener, I was referring to the actual opener being in the way, not sure I can justify the $1500 to do it though.  Sometimes my follow through with the driver can get pretty close, I can always move the hitting mat over a foot or so if needed too. My first option is to just move my current opener 12-18" higher, I think it's possible.

If you're looking for a cheap projector, they have one on amazon for $100 to get you by.  I have it just to get me going for now but I will eventually get the optima 1080HDR short throw for $800 or they have a slightly better version for around $1200.  There's the link for the one I have:

Room is looking good so far!

I just got a Skytrak and I like it, seems to be pretty good for distances most of the time.  I would check out the Bushnell as well if you are trying to go camera based, looks like it could be a good option depending on the price point
