OG Rapture Driver is Just Freakin' WOW!

Bought a Rapture V1 driver to go in the 2000's vintage bag. 10.5 degrees, stock regular flex shaft. I had every intention of reshafting with a stiff VS Proto (my OCD wants all the shafts to be of the same vintage as well). Just for s**** and giggles I took it out for a spin today as is, and I'll be damned if it isn't one of the best drivers I've ever used. I hit more fairways than I probably have all year, and I was bombing that thing. So, to heck with that reshaft. Something about that regular flex shaft is really jiving with my swing. Even though I average around 110 mph with driver, that shaft kept up, no problem. I guess if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. And don't even get me started on how good it sounds and feels. Bye-bye 905R. Hello Rapture v1. Now I'm wondering how good the fairways were/still are. And just like that, another rabbit hole...

I've got one back in the UK that I bought secondhand around 2013 to use when I was back visiting the folks. It's got an Aldila Proto shaft (65 Proto, IIRC). I don't think the shaft is a great fit for me, but I've hit some bombs with the driver. It sounds very muted, which is something many of the more recent Pings could do with.

V1 10.5* was the 1st time I could loft up & keep spin down....absolute bomber for me

Absolutely agree on the sound of the new PING woods. I have a G425 SFT 3 wood and it sounds like hot garbage. I much prefer my G25 4 wood because of that.

I just sold my G400 Max driver because I hit the Rapture better.  No regrets...

Still have my 10.5 head, has an Oban Revenge 65.05 in it

 

The only negative is I can be Hookier than modern stuff on toe strikes, but it is easily as long.  

 

In 2008, playing with the OG Spiderman Rapture, I was 40 and played in these big events that summer .. Nationwide Gretzky, Ontario Am, Ontario Mid-Am, Canadian Am and Canadian Mid-Am .. summer of LOVE 

 

But for feel and looks, best driver ever released IMO

 

And per your fairway question, the 17* five wood is a beast, I gave mine to @Mitchell … easy to launch

Legendary driver for sure. Martin Kaymer used it on tour for years

 

The sound was just too much for me. There's muted and there's literally mute. You could barely tell you were hitting the ball. I'd make a swing and then look down like " oh good I hit it"

I gave my son a Rapture 5 wood years ago along with a Titleist 910 driver.

He finally got a G400 Max in the bag last year  but won't replace the Rap, hits it on a rope 220 yds easily. Amazing club.

I love this driver. I have had one since it was introduced. Started with the 10.5 but moved to a 12 degree with a Diamana Blueboard and consistently bombed it.

I loved it so much that whenever I saw one on ebay, I bought it to have backups (I have 5 of them).

 

Every year, I would go to demo days and until recently, nothing compared.

However after 15 years, I bought the new G425 (a 12 degree with a Tensei Orange) and it is a little longer and a lot more forgiving. The sound of the G425 makes me miss the Rapture.

 

Ping makes the best drivers. Wish they would make an updated Rapture.

Picked up a 2005 Nike SQ 460 Tour with a OG Blueboard. Ended up kicking the SIM2 out of the bag. I hit it straighter and further than the SIM2 and if I need to I can work it both ways.

Og rapture was a fun club. I always liked mine, but the real king was the rapture v2/blueboard combo. That was my all time favorite head/shaft. 
 

The really sad part of this thread is thats the 2000s are now vintage. I’m getting old 😝

LOVED the V2 with Blueboad combo.  I'll never understand why I went away from it.

I may try to find a blueboard to put in mine. I have always liked that shaft.
