Who else prefers GI long iron over Utility Iron for the spot below 3W?

I tried to like utility iron for the spot between 3W and 4i, but I just cannot hit it consistently.  It is good when I hit well, but the offline shots kill my scores. I have tried a few different UT models, all same result. I then started to use game improvement 3 irons, and the result has been better.  It does not travel as long, but mostly straight, and even the offline shots are not as catastrophic.  

 

 Anyone else has similar experience?  What GI long iron do you play? I am currently playing Srixon ZX5 3 iron and would like to give Titleist T200 iron a try this off seaon.

I play a Mizuno MP-20 HMB 2 Iron.  To me it kind of fits right in between that spot of UT and GI iron long iron.

For me, my setup is 3w, zx5 3i, and then regular (player irons) 4i - pw, 50, 56, 60. I just cannot hit UT well enough to game it.

My Set up is similar.  3W, Mizuno HMB 2 Iron, 4i-PW.  3W set at 13.5* while 2iron at 17* gives me a good gapping.

 

Ive tried the Taylormade DHY, UDI and Titleist U500.  Just didn't like the feel.  I tend to think I dont like the bulkier head.

Same with me. I think I want to like UT but it does not like me.  I have compared a Callaway UT 18 with my gamer ZX5 3 iron.  For good shots, UT18 totals 250 yds and ZX5 travels 240 yds.  For bad shots when I pull/pushed, UT 18 can go 40 yards offline while ZX5 only goes 30 yards offline in comparison.  This 10 yards is the difference between a punch-out-to-save-par or Bye-Bye-OB-to-double.

Just picked up a Honma TW-X 3 iron to replace my hybrids. I'll find out how it goes in the next few days.

A few years back I had a Nike VRS forged 3 iron that I used instead of the VR Pro blade 3 iron. It would have worked well I think if I had put the correct shaft in it.

I have liked the TM DHY 2 and 3 irons with the Diamana Thump 90 shaft, but hit a buddies PXG 0311XP 3 iron and I was impressed. Flys higher with a steel shaft and the club just felt so solid and less hollow on impact on the range. I ordered it and cant wait to get the email to come pick it up! GI head but less bulky than the DHY I was gaming.  So Im with the OP

I go driver, 3W, 2 hybrid, 4 iron, works great.

I play the TE Exotics CB Pro Tungsten irons, with KBS Tour 90 Regular shafts (~ 95 grams). These are GI with parallel tip hosel.

 

I had the 4i refitted with a R-flex SteelFiber 780 HLS hybrid shaft (75 grams). The lighter shaft makes it very easy to handle. It makes an excellent driving iron, and is good for approach shots into the wind.
