How Many Classics Sets Do You Own

Recommended Posts

It's funny, but quite by accident I have acquired iron sets by decade:

1952 Spalding Robert T Jones Stainless

1962 Wilson Staff Dynapower Turfriders

1972 Hogan Apex

1982 Hogan Radial, 1987 Wilson Tour Blades, 1988 Hogan Redlines

1999 Hogan Apex

2003 Apex

2011 Wilson FG62

Going forward I want to add some Macgregor irons to that mix, but that's already too many sets for my current living situation.

Whew! Somewhat relieved after stumbling upon this thread. I have 5 sets. 2 full sets of Titleist Tour Models, MacGregor V- Foils (semi vintage) Ping eye2’s, and recently Wilson Staff Fluid Feels. I can definitely see my obsession increasing as my biggest problem is I’m always looking  to have  a full period specific set. For whatever reason I can’t mix match anything in one bag. It’s all or nothing. One round it’s all Ping, then Titleist etc. Each set has to be 2 thru PW and SW, 1,3,5 Woods. No Deviation whatsoever. Weird I know. I play all of them and love all the little nuances from each set. Especially the Wilson Staff’s. (To date they are the best feeling irons I’ve played). This all started with Titleist 4 years ago. First the serial number matching blades, then the Persimmon’s, the Blondes followed by the dark Walnut colored versions, the Bullseye Putter, the retro black and white faux leather staff bag, head covers,  even the vintage Titleist umbrella and lastly the Stowaway Plus pull cart. Yes, the one made in England. For the Wilson set I’m  already  scouring Wilson Staff Tour Block Persimmon’s and the revered 8802 putter (very pricey). I haven’t even started with Hogan, MacGregor etc so it’s looking like 10 sets plus all the accessories will be it. Hopefully….

Hey being OCD as I would say with matched sets etc that is doing your thing which is great- I always say do your own thing. LOL me I am the opposite I have never played a perfectly matched set and do not think I can. I always mis matched. But that is what makes the world go round variety

I'm a Ping guy so other than a Wilson 8802 putter I grew up with, I am all-Ping.  Looking for a set of Hogan Apexes in excellent condition but for now, I have:

Ping Karsten II (1976)

Ping Eye 2+ BeCu (1991)

Ping ISI BeCu (1996)

Ping ISI BeNi (1996)

As well as my regular set, IBlades, and a holiday set of Anser Forged.  I also have a lot of classic Ping putters.

Ping FTW! I love my Pings too. Just finished walking 18 with my eye 2 rig. I’m totally sold on Wilson Duo Softs with the laminate woods. Very straight ball flight. The Anser 3 loves them too!

These are where my persimmon woods are kept.  I'm starting to run out of room in the oversized staff bag.  😉
