Iron Upgrade Suggestions: Pre-Demoing Stage

Folks I'm sure there are a lot of these posts but I could use your help narrowing down the search.

Just getting back into golf after a few years off:

Currently playing at an 18 index

Irons: Nike Covert VR_S, steel shafted

38 y/o man, hit my 7 iron about 175ish

I like these irons very much but feel it might be time for an update. Bought them new in 2013 but I'm not sure what has changed if anything in iron tech.

I thought about trying the following:

Tour Edge Exotic C721

TaylorMade P790

Titleist T100S

I would look at the P770 unless you feel you need the 790. Folks seem to get along with the P770.

There are a TON of options based on what you feel you want/need. I would hit as many as possible first, or take advantage of demo options.

Haywood 1 with Hzrdus Black RDX 70

Haywood 3W PXG 0211 5W

Haywood 18* driving iron

Haywood MB irons 3-PW

Mitsubishi Kuro Kage 80g iron shafts

Haywood 52/10 and 56/12 wedges

Haywood mid mallet putter

Golf Pride Concept Helix grips

Check out the Sub70 699's/699 Pro's, they would fit the bill based on your handicap. I play to a 15 and play the 699's and they're awesome

Can you tell me more about this company? I've never heard of them. Quick google search says their direct to consumer which makes me nervous to buy without hitting. Good company to work with?

Not the case for the P770s... I was told December, earliest.  But it depends on what you want or what you're fit into as far as shafts as well.  The 770s were not as helpful as I thought they would be, I think the Srixon ZX5 would be a better option for help and availability.  Having played the 7 series quite a bit, I find them very forgiving so I can imagine the 5s being all that much more helpful.

Awesome company. I just got one of their drivers.

They have a demo program where they send you two irons for $120, and you get $100 back when you return them.

Sub70 is about as good a DTC as you will find. Ask the owner, he will personally respond to you with any questions you might have.

At an 18 I would lean towards the p790.  Definitely hit both though.

t100s seems a very compact club for an 18 but only you can know for sure after hitting.
I would want to hit the callaway apex or some combo of apex’s.  I would also want to hit the mizuno jpx line, in specific the hot metal pro and the forged. Mizzy hmb would also be worth a test drive. Ping g425 would be on my list as an 18 hcp.  Cobra forged Tec would be worth hitting and might actually fit the bill nicely.   You could save some serious coin and go with the sub 70 699 or 699 pro and get some nice sticks for the money.  Pxg gen 3 are $135 each now, but they will be harder to hit.  Just a few ideas of what I’d like to hit if I were an 18 hcp looking for new clubs…

I ordered the new P790’s mid-August.  Latest delivery update is mid-November.  The delay are the Mitsubishi MMT shafts.
