Best Area to retire - golf, weather, affordability and "things" to do

It's a "miss" for them coming from San Antonio.  I'm in Hilton Head SC so it would be a "miss" for me too if it snowed on a day I wanted to play golf.

I am going to check out Wilmington, NC in March over Spring break. I am leaning towards South Carolina, the wife wants to live in Florida., but is open to other spots of her parents have passed. Although I enjoy going to Florida in the winter months, I really have NO desire to live there. I would like to be somewhere in the middle like Columbia, Sc, Pinehurst or even upstate SC. Knoxville would be nice but no way she would go for that. I can retire in about 3-4 more years.

Check out Brunswick Forest in Leland.  Very nice community with easy access to Wilmington + a bunch of courses on the MB strand. Cape Fear National is located in the development and is a really good track typically in excellent condition. You can play year round with only a few weeks a year borderline. Wilmington is a cool town. Big enough to have everything you need, but too big. Airport is good but limited flights. Raleigh not a bad drive for more flight options.

The only course I am playing in Wilmington is the Muni. I may add Cape Fear National as well. I'll check out those spots, thanks!
