The Euros love love love to play to the crowd on their home turf, cough in backswings, move when a US player is putting and all other things like this but when a US player does it all we get is whine whine whine ahhhh the US crowds are rude and their players are dicks……..

Sore loser.  I have a minority opinon, but I thought his reaction to making the putt on Saturday in his fourball match to win a meaningless point for Europe was a bit too much.  I wouldn't' have blamed any caddie or player for walking by him and saying "scoreboard" to him.   I know most think he's a big loveable lug, but there's just something about him that I've never been a fan of.

 

This to me is sour grapes.  When you lose and complain about anything, it only comes off that way.

I am amazed at the number of petulant complaints from these professionals on both sides. Really is telling of the times, hyper sensitive and so often a victim of their environment. I know this doesn't apply to all of them, but I hope to see some thicker skin in the next Ryder Cup.

It was way over the top for the situation. I think he was just sick of seeing our guys all celebrating.

I'd be willing to bet that booing at the first tee has happened at every recent RC by both sides. The fact that there were so few Euro fans present to drown out the boos with their applause and yelling made it appear so one-sided and negative.

1000 percent agree. You have to know what the situation is when you want to celebrate or get pumped. You’re “team” is getting shellacked… figure it out!

I think this shows the difference between golf and other sports. In other team sports the fans are WAY more demonstrable in their feelings towards the away team.  For all the talk about the RC being so great for these guys to play on a team a lot of them are taken aback when they actually experience it.

I remember an interview with Rory (No Laying Up podcast, maybe?) where he said he's fine with the booing, happens all the time... but takes exception to personal attacks...

 

I was at the 1st tee Friday & Saturday and there were maybe 50 Euro fans out of the thousands that were surrounding

Edit: I understand I didn't explain what I meant by "environment", that's my fault. But I was referring to the friction between the two teams, not the external factors, my bad.

Agreed. I moved the thread topic when I mentioned issues with fans from another article I read--- which I shouldn't have done.   

But yeah, gamesmanship amongst the competition is expected for sure.  Heck I play in a Ryder Cup weekend tournament w/buddies and it gets downright ugly at times and we're good friends! 🙂

I think both sides need to tone it down a bit.  Yeah, cheer like hell with the victories but less chanting and booing while the ball is in play, or the Ryder Cup will just be another Waste Management.  Event hosting should be in a spirit of mutual respect.  No one should walk away pissed.

That article is a joke.  Lowry makes one statement: "I didn't think it was that bad until I asked my wife what it was like for her, and they got abuse coming around as well."  And that's it.....no specifics, no other people in their camp commenting on it.  Yet from that one line you get the headline "Lowry's wife abused by Ryder Cup fans".  I realize this happens often but this one really had me shaking my head.

I dont condone the personal attacks, but everyone who participates in the Ryder Cup should know going in that its just - in Brooks Koepka's words - different.

 

I guess if Shane is that upset at how bad the US fans are, he can always give up his PGA Tour membership and play on the European Tour full-time in front of the classy Europeans.

This is part of the reason why he's 'upset' - he might have only one shot at a Ryder Cup and his team got blasted.

Probably right about that, and I am sure it is tough for him... but still sour grapes. 

 

Getting booed and having people cheer against you must be something very interesting for a golfer. Unless you're DeChambeau this is the only event in your whole golf career (junior through Champions Tour), where people actively cheer against you.

Wouldnt this reasoning then apply to Cantlay’s antics on Sunday?  That was a meaningless match as well.

He said he didn’t want to concede some of the short putts because he was getting booed. So because some fans are booing him, he takes it out on the players??? And then he laid his putter down because someone else did it 1st???. Comes of as childish/immature to me. And I like Lowry.
