S Lowry reportedly not happy at Ryder Cup

His celebration on 18 was so strange. If there was an American acting like that in defeat they would be appropriately criticized by the media and it would be one of the biggest stories of the Ryder Cup.

Wouldnt this reasoning then apply to Cantlay’s antics on Sunday?  That was a meaningless match as well.

Uh his team was winning, I think a little celebration was in order

Shane complains a lot. In the 2014 US Open, he complained that they put him in a "fat guys tee time" which included Kevin Stadler and Brendon De Jonge.

Well he wasn't wrong, and he kinda is 🙂

Sore loser.  I have a minority opinon, but I thought his reaction to making the putt on Saturday in his fourball match to win a meaningless point for Europe was a bit too much.  I wouldn't' have blamed any caddie or player for walking by him and saying "scoreboard" to him.   I know most think he's a big loveable lug, but there's just something about him that I've never been a fan of.

This to me is sour grapes.  When you lose and complain about anything, it only comes off that way.

I don't think that is a minority opinion at all.  Maybe he was trying to inspire his team to put up some kind of miracle comeback on Sunday but it just came across as ogreish and silly.

Yeah, apparently it isn't.  When I said that I only had the comments from the TV announcers who seemed to love his "fire and intensity"  LOL!

Is this what everyone is calling the "booing" Cause I watched every minute of the Sunday coverage and don't remember hearing any booing. But I was doing chores and sh*t during some of it so maybe I missed this booing people are talking about. What I watched, the euro guys got a warmer reception on the first tee than I expected.

You couldn’t have watched and listened to first tee intros and not have heard booing. It was a little less, IMO, on Sunday as the day went on, but it was definitely there and not really debatable.

if im understanding you correctly, you are claiming the europeans coughed on a backswing, or moved on a putting stroke, on each of those occasions?

Have you got evidence for this? statements, reports, youtube? Truthfully I dont recall any such thing apart from a long way past his best Seve crossing the line once or twice

The cough was at Kiawah - war on the shore. He also accused his opponents of ball swapping (same ball type rule).

The year he played Lehman was not his finest moment.

He said he didn’t want to concede some of the short putts because he was getting booed. So because some fans are booing him, he takes it out on the players??? And then he laid his putter down because someone else did it 1st???. Comes of as childish/immature to me. And I like Lowry.

Takes it out on them?

Concessions are a gift - no reason to expect them, ever.

Seve and JMO notorious for it. Faldo, Woosie and others also. The Euro crowds are always loud and boo poor shots and missed putts often. Paul Casey publicly stated that he hated Americans during the event. I’m sorry I didn’t document it when it occurred, I didn’t realize there would be a hearing. But those above were easy to recall from memory without much effort.

Right, by a margin that wouldn’t be overcome one is a thousand times.  Why the need to rile he crowd as if the outcome could be changed.

For the better part of the last 30 years US players have been accused of not caring about the Ryder Cup and now that they do this is also unacceptable?

I dont ever recall Faldo or Woosie or anyone else ever moving during putting or coughing on an opponents swing. Never saw it, read it, or heard anyone on the American side complain about it, let alone in 8 seperate Ryder cups, as you claim.

The only one I know of was Seve.

Defeat?  They won the match, get over it.  Team was getting beat, but they are supposed to be submissive and subdued while the USA does a bunch of front running celebrations?

LOL.  Let the emotion come out, pretty sure they are the ones under the real pressure.

That article is a joke.  Lowry makes one statement: "I didn't think it was that bad until I asked my wife what it was like for her, and they got abuse coming around as well."  And that's it.....no specifics, no other people in their camp commenting on it.  Yet from that one line you get the headline "Lowry's wife abused by Ryder Cup fans".  I realize this happens often but this one really had me shaking my head.

Spouse’s and significant others walk with the players inside the ropes at the Ryder Cup. As a matter of fact, there were so many people walking with each group, I believe very, very few would even recognize Lowry’s wife.

I was there all three days and heard nothing directed at a player’s wife. Some of the Euro players- yes. And saw two people escorted off the course by security forces for doing so (which the USA fans applauded).

Cantlay shouldn’t be riling up the crowd when he’s taking a putt, it’s gamesmanship. Can see why he was pissed off at that. But that’s why we like the Ryder Cup, there’s a bit more spice to it. Cantlay knew what he was doing and it worked.

Except Cantlay riling up the crowd was just his celebration after making a putt.  It's not like Lowry was over a putt and Cantlay was waving his arms asking for crowd noise.
