Bethpage (Besides Black/Red)

Disregarding the brutal 5 hour rounds that are quite common, I’m curious to see everyone’s opinion on how they rank the other three courses based on design and enjoyment. I’ve played them all numerous times and my personal opinion is Green, Yellow and Blue.

I enjoy how different the Green is in terms of green sizes and undulation compared to the others. Yellow has the slight edge over Blue for me with much more memorable holes and a great layout if you’re looking for more of a fun easy round. If I was looking for a challenge, I would prefer to just play Red over Blue (although the front 9 of Blue is no slouch). But, Blue for me is that in between track, which is almost why it’s the least preferable for me personally.

I enjoy Green the most personally because it isn't stressful and has some fun elevated tees.

Yellow is easier than Green on paper but it's interesting. Front 9 is actually really fun but then it sort of dies down after because they had to split the area with Blue which unfortunately hurt both courses.

Blue is the hardest of the 3. I think the Front 9 are harder than the Front 9 of Red. All the par 3s are the same, 170-190 depending on the tees you're hitting from with a gap between tee area and green so you need to hit your distance. Back 9 is much much easier. If they combined the area of the front 9 of Yellow with the Front 9 of Blue, it would be a much more fun course.

FYI, I've been playing a Bethpage course for many years.  Before the Black was redone for the Open, the Blue was the signature course and used for local tournaments.  The sixth hole has to be one of the hardest holes on LI if you're familiar with it.  In my opinion, the front nine ranks right up there with the Black in difficulty.

It's been a while since I logged online 7 days before, right at 7:00pm to try and grab a tee time. It's always been tough with grabbing tee times for Black course as they are usually all gone within 30 seconds, which is to be expected. But, I recently logged on trying to grab an early afternoon tee time for Green/Yellow/Blue and they all were gone within the first 30 seconds as well?! I kept clicking multiple tee times and just kept getting beat with an error saying "no longer available". This was absolutely crazy to me as I've never had this issue before for these three courses.

I brought up the problem of getting reservations [actually complaining] with the park management and this was his answer - which I don't buy at all!!!!😕  There are only limited golf reservations available and at 7 PM there are about 300 people trying to get in so the reservations go fast.

It was actually better with the phone system, in my opinion.  Something illegal is going on there.

It's mostly the amount of bots that are going at it. Also people have multiple people logging on to get tee times together and then pass the times along to one another sometime later on in the week.

I hear what you're saying but I think it goes deeper.

My buddy and I have never had any trouble finding a tee time since we generally just book it the night before as there are plenty of cancellations especially for a twosome. I only stumbled upon this realization because of I needed to book a foursome and figured I should login and secure it sooner. Although I couldn't get one a week earlier, I still managed to snag a foursome on Green the night before so in the end it worked out. I guess for me being local, Black and Red are the only ones worth grabbing one ASAP for, but I guess I'm underestimating the popularity of Bethpage to the masses and people willing to play any Bethpage course, plus its easy access via LIRR for those in the city.
