Ever bought a counterfeit club?

I wonder how good they are getting at making copies. Drivers and putters are so dang high these days, it could pay them to spend some bucks for perfect molds and such to make it look like the real thing.

 

Has law enforcement cracked down on the thieves or not so?

not worth it at all. No craftmanship or whatsoever similar is relevant in making counterfeit golf clubs. I know there are some "masters" in the counterfeit watch and purse market but not for golf. Rather, buy older models.

The more counterfeit products bought means more in the used marked which means bigger issues and headaches buying used. 

 

There are plenty of cheaper options you don't need to buy the new P790 or T100 irons there are DTC brands with just as good quality for less.

I have a couple buddies who bought fake Titleist T200s on Alibaba this summer. 

 

To the occasional or "starting out" golfer, I'm sure they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. 

 

For sh*ts and giggles I tried them and was surprised. They felt nice and went the same distance I hit my own clubs. However, the workmanship just isnt there. Both of their sets had stickers in the back cavity fall out. One of the sets had 3 iron heads break off the hosel. 

 

Any Golfwrx member I'd recommend you stay away. You just won't be happy at the end of the day.

I got burned a long time ago in an R11.   Haven’t bought a club off Craigslist or similar since.

Tons of fakes out there and they are getting better and better at looking legit.  I'll never buy anything that isn't from an authorized distributer.  When something looks too good to be true it usually is.

Almost did from a seller on craigslist until I noticed a R11 TM had no screw but a hosel to glue a shaft. My friend bought a fake Mizuno 921 Forged on EBay that it was almost a carbon copy but luckily my other friend had a set to compare side by side. No serial number and a detail or two were off. I saw a perfect fake Cameron Tour Rat and Vokeys my friend bought in China.

Never a club, but I got a wonky adapter off eBay. The markings were off a little but it worked fine. Buddy got a counterfeit driver a few years ago and it sounded terrible.

Rick Shiels tested a counterfeit Taylor Made against the real thing. It was horrible. If you want an inexpensive club that's not a piece of junk try Maltby or Hireko. For a few bucks more, Ben Hogan.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time in China, particularly in the manufacturing space. Their ability to near replicate anything is stunning.  I’ve been to giant shopping malls where every store has fake walls and behind is every knock off item you could imagine.  They have become insanely good at the copy business

Had an R11S that Taylormade said was counterfeit because they didn't have the SSN in their system.  Compared it to at least 10 other heads and couldn't tell or see any difference, weights and everything worked as intended, and the thing hit missiles.  Also saw some Ali-Baba AP2's and those looked decent and felt okay but swing weights weren't good and the shafts didn't feel like real PX 6.0's.

If they did, I might. I can't justify an expensive putter when I do well with mine. But for pure pimp factor, I totally would.
