As if equipment delays weren't enough, FedEx is.

Okay, it looks like the shipping label on my package got messed up and had to be replaced, so it has been delayed until Monday.  This is really the first time I have had any issues with FedEx, and it's only one business day.  The package is in Kansas City, so it will definitely make it to me Monday, which is certainly not a big deal.  But, their near-perfect record for me has taken a minor hit.  Still much better service than the USPS in my experience.

I think this is Fedex's current go-to excuse. Lots of messed up shipping labels.

I got my mixer today, so FedEx still has a pretty good record with me.  I'm not going to make a fuss about my package being one day late.

I wonder if this is a regional thing.  I'm in the midwest and have had zero issues with FedEx, but the same nightmare stories as you except with USPS.

I agree with this.  When we still lived in SoCal I preferred UPS over FedEX as I had fewer problems.  Since moving to TX it has been the oppostive and FedEX has been mostly flawless but had a couple problems w/UPS.  For SmartPost it travels FedEX to the regional USPS hub I believe and they take over delivery from there.  Can be very hit and miss and I've had a similar experience to the OP on a shipment but it didn't overshoot me by that much.  Even when SmartPost works like it should its pretty slow.

Has FedEx changed Smartpost? It used to be that FedEx would handle the package all the way until final delivery, which would be handled by the local post office, but it would never go through USPS processing centers.

In any case, I also wonder about how different it is by region. I've had no problems with FedEx beyond a 1-day delay even through the worst of the pandemic last year. USPS on the other hand has been all over the place.

I've probably shipped 50 or so packages this year and received at least as many.

Fedex has been FANTASTIC for me - somehow. Crossing my fingers here but they've been the best service so far between the 3.

I just had a GolfPartnerUSA package from Japan to Florida take 3 days (with the time difference) but I have a USPS Priority package - from Alabama - which is taking 5 days.

Go figure.

FedEx is definitely having staffing issues. They have been so busy that in order to attempt to keep up, they have added evening delivery and pickup routes. In addition to adding additional routes during their normal day. But they can’t get enough drivers to fill all the additional routes. So some stuff is stockpiling in the hubs and getting pushed back.

Less people actually working (delivering) and more people ordering online, makes a mess of things.

Maybe I can just pick it up tomorrow if they still haven't brought it. It's been in town since Sunday. 🤣

I cringe when I see packages route through PDX or Troutdale....I picked up an express overnight at FedEx Issaquah up here in the Seattle area last week, after two days of not delivering it. Nice person at the counter gave me a "sorry we're short on drivers" answer.

3 Packages en route via FedEx all have moved to the dreaded potentially delayed.

They give you hope as if it were only a day late, understandable due to the current circumstances with staffing shortages and just overall supply chain issues.  But I expect that it may be Monday at the earliest based on the last several FedEx deliveries as it still has another stop in Ohio before getting to me in Michigan.

I have pretty much given up on estimated FedEx delivery dates and it arrives when it arrives.

Troutdale and PDX are the worst!! Don’t know how many times I’ve had to drive out to the hub and just get it myself because they can’t get their sh*t together.

Here is my current odd Fed Ex delivery tracking. Note the Sunday October 17th delivery date below, which was delayed from Saturday the 16th, but has already been picked up for delivery early in the future on Monday morning October 18th in Indiana again where the package started. Current tracking below shows the package in suburban Columbus, OH on its way to the destination of the Pittsburgh area on Sunday the 17th. Crazy stuff.

The upcoming holiday season with product shortages everywhere and continued shipping issues across all carriers is going to be another mess.

My 3 wood showed up yesterday. Shipped 9/28, expected 10/6, arrived 10/18. If it hadn't sat in Portland since the 10th, it might not be so bad.

In my area, NW Ohio USPS has been great, usually actually a day early and at the worst on time. FedEx on the other hand is at least a week behind. We have huge threads and Facebook pages going on about it and I really feel bad for people who are unable to get medications and other necessary things because of the worker shortage. I try not to make a fuss about it when getting a golf club late is not detrimental to my health..... Or is it?

Woot! On a truck today, baby. 10 days later than expected, but still better than months waiting on shafts or heads.

The wedges I ordered in June I finally cancelled because they said maybe by the end of the year, maybe.

I also have been having a frustrating time with FedEx. I ordered a set of TM790s and they were shipped FedEx Express 2 Day. Of course, they were not delivered on time and upon tracking I realized they were actually sent FedEx Ground versus Express. I had to drop off some equipment at our FedEx location and they informed me that FedEx will make their own determination and ship ground if it is determined that ground can make the delivery date (2-days). She mentioned last mile determination. I had major issues with ground shipping for a set of PXGs I ordered my son, so there is no way I would have went that route again had I known.

What makes this even more ironic is they were supposed to be delivered today, but when I called the customer service number they said they would not be delivered until Monday because Saturday delivery was not selected-which must be done for FedEx Express. I explained that since it was in the hands of FedEx Ground it should be delivered tomorrow as ground shipping works on Saturday and Sunday. She said it would not happen. So, bottom line is we paid for air, was shipped ground (cheaper), and they will not even honor Saturday delivery. Sorry for the long post. At least TM only charged $10.00 for two day shipping and the irons were in stock.

  • 1 month later...

Add me to the list of folks that will NEVER use FedEx if given a choice.

Was expecting a package Thursday (between 9am-1pm) that required signature for delivery. Attempt wasn't made until 5:30PM during the 20 minutes that I did leave the house. Great. No worries, they'll attempt delivery again on Friday right? Nope. No update on their site for my package until 7PM. So at 8PM, I request to have the package held at my local FedEx station for me so I can go pick it up myself. Request was accepted this morning and my package is on the truck for delivery at 9AM.

It's 4:36PM now and tracking was updated to say that package is back at the city hub facility. They didn't attempt to deliver to my local facility that is less than 10 miles away from the hub. FINE. I call customer service to ask if I can pick up the package myself today. That'd be too easy, right? "No, the facility is closed. We will attempt to redeliver on Monday." Meanwhile the web tracking says Tuesday by end of business.

Holy crap are they are incompetent.

UPS has been bad for me lately.

Had a standard ground package take 9 days. They're also hiring 'assistants' for their drivers (two people to a truck now) that are in plain clothes who seem to enjoy just lobbing packages at your front door. I've also had deliveries from people in plain clothes and personal vehicles like Amazon, but standard UPS.
