Do pros flight 60* wedges or club up?

All I can say about this shot is that if I even attempt to put a conscious thought into it, it will fail LOL. It's absolute feel and trusting your practice. Any deliberate try in this shot will lead to a drive thru a wendys for chili or skull job.

100 % true.  He hits  that unconsciously.  And that’s due to hundreds of thousands of balls .

It 100% depends on the distance they are from the flag.

Without any context, answers like "there's no need to go down to 52" mean nothing.

@bladehunter is right. from 50 - 65 yards, most (maybe all) are using some form of a lob wedge.

From 90-100 yards, most (vast majority) are not going to hit a low spinner with a lob wedge.

Agree. It’s so situational it’s impossible to give a real black and white answer.

for instance. The state mid am this year.  We played a private course with bent greens.  And they had watered the crap out of them to keep them alive.  I was spinning 8 irons back.   I wouldn’t have hit a spinning lob wedge for any reason.  You simply could not control it.  So everyone ended up hitting a lot of dead hand waist high wedges.  And those would hit , and skip then come back to the pitch mark.  Extreme example but still.

Now make that hard fast greens and suddenly you’re trying to juice everything wedge to launch it to the moon and hope it spins enough to not roll forward.   Or I guess you could come in low snd play for 20 yards of roll.

Yep. I saw a post here about a guy who went to a tour event and sat on a hole where just about everyone had a short wedge in. S/He said some of them looked like they were shots hit thin.

If you've never seen really good players hit a spinning wedge shot, it's hard to visualize just how low they go.

Correct. This shot is very very rarely seen on your local golf course. Its a highly skilled shot that even most scratch players can't hit correctly. Most good players just hit a less than full shot that has reliable spin and roll out which is not the same thing.

I will say though, if you learn this shot, you will be able to score in the 60s pretty much on command.

Speaking of Pros only. The PGA typically set courses up with a stimp of 11 or higher. If they don't have spin on a shot it had better land a considerable distance short of the hole because it WILL roll (as we see each weekend on TV). That being said, Pros can spin a SW just about as much as they can a LW, or GW for that matter. So they choose the club that will give them to combination of spin and trajectory to get the result they want. They can pretty much do whatever they want from the fairway, sand and light rough. When they get in the heavy rough though, you begin to see them rely on higher trajectory to stop the ball since the grass with inhibit applying as much spin as clean contact.

As for me, an OBVIOUS non-pro, I can flight my 60 down reliably, but I rarely do it for a shot longer than 40-50 yds.

We always hear about pros flighting wedges.

When they have shorter shots within the lob wedge distance do they flight a 60* or do they often club up and play the gap?  Thanks

Most pros are going to flight a 60, but that is painting with a broad brush. Simply because a flighted wedge is easier to control than a moon-ball. That's obviously relative and dependent on conditions, player, and yardage.
