Sympathy for Rickie

you guys act like Fowler doesn't care now because he has all the $ and a wife/kid. It's pretty well known he is busting his butt out there and frustrated, I don't think he is just letting go and enjoying this, lol.

No idea where Rickie's career goes, but I dount there's anyone here who would have thought Lee Westwood would be on a Ryder Cup team just 3-4 years ago.

But he has a hot wife and millions....I agree with you missing the Ryder cup, missing the cut at Shriners, ranked 128th has to have him frustrated, if it doesn't he should just leave his shoes on the 18th green and call it a day.

haha, exactly. I guarantee this is weighing on him a good bit. Imagine being famous for golf and losing your game in the public eye, more pressure than people realize. It's also a big part of his identity. These top guys don't care about the $ that much when you get to that status

Not that it would make much of a difference, but I would love to see him move to a new brand of equipment. A “fresh start” so to speak.

Sometimes. Like the Masters last week when Tiger asked Bryson if there was an ant on his ball on the tee at 12. And Bryson hit 4 shanks in a row and made a 19. Would have loved to have been there to see TW win #19. Now, just not sure what to do with myself sometimes.

I've always been a fan of Rickie Fowler. I think he represents (in many ways) the best of what a professional athlete should be and do. I'd take his schtick over Bruce's, DCB's, and even Tiger's any day of the week.

 

My disappointment in him is purely selfish. I'd love to see him win more. I wish that more people might grow to be like Rickie, rather than Tiger, Bruce, or DCB.

 

Winning is cool, but if you can't be a decent human being at the same time, I have problems with it.

Guy made millions on and off of the course, newly married, with a baby on the way.  In my eyes, he's living a pretty good life.

 

He may have just stopped to smell the roses before it is too late.

Unfortunately, that's been Fowler's problem most of his career. The other is that he makes a ton of birdies but gives them right back with so many bogeys. I root for him every tournament he's in.

Rickie Fowler is probably one of the nicest and most well-mannered players on tour. He does a lot for the fans in terms of interactions. I know a lot of it is sponsors commitments. But the way he treats people is special.

You doubt that? How many Rickie commercials were there thursday and friday? Usually we're flooded by them..Hard to market some guy that isnt playing the weekends and is ranked 128th

Rickie has been on the pga tour for ~1/3 the time as Lee. He's won 2.5x more on the big tour and has earned ~50% more than Lee. 

 

All records aside, Rickie like Lee hasn't performed to the level many thought possible. To be clear I like Lee also.

True statement.  I’ve played with his grandfather Taka a couple of times in men’s league. Super nice guy who obviously is very proud of his grandson. Every few months he would be sporting a new Puma outfit which was pretty funny to see.

I just wish the guy would play to his potential. He has so much god given talent, I'd love to see him have some fire and dominate the tour for a time. I don't understand why saying he underperforms relative to his talent level is so offensive (what's not these days?), I hope he and YJS make us critics eat our words!

He seems to emulate Arnie in approach to the game and how he comports himself off the course. He doesn't have Arnie's strength though. 10 lbs of added muscle might do him wonders. He has a motocross background, has same aggressive attack mode to his play, that runs foul with a flat, speedy swing out of the rough, more Hogan, less Arnie perhaps. Like him, he's better than his record suggests.

Lee Westwood has 44 professional wins compared to Rickie's 9.  Lee Westwood has also played in 11 Ryder Cups and has won 24 points. There's a pretty good chance Lee will be at Augusta next year while Rickie will be watching it from his couch again. Rickie should honestly go to the European Tour and try to get some OWGR points over there.

He's young, has boat loads of cash, hot wife, highly marketable.... hard to sympathize with the guy.. I mean.... he's living a great life!
