Sympathy for Rickie

 Wadkins 's highest was 5

Probably could have been higher if the rankings existed in 1982 and 1985 as he had 3 wins in each of those years

I am just saying that people expect too much of Rickie because of his extraordinary exposure

There were rankings (unofficial) back then. The Mark McCormack World Golf Rankings. Existed from 1968 to 1985. Which ultimately became the OWGR rankings we have today albeit in a wildly different form. Would love to find a complete list of those old rankings. The old rankings were based on a 3 year period.

Lanny's highest ranking in that format was 4th in 1984.

Jerry Lanston "Lanny" Wadkins Jr. (born December 5, 1949) is an American professional golfer. He ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for 86 weeks from the ranking's debut in 1986 to 1988.

Wtf did Butch tell Rickie this week in Vegas?

Nothing this week. Last week, when he saw Rickie twice and then Rickie missed the cut, Harmon mentioned he was swinging fine and didn't really help him with his game.

Good to see that helped him out I guess. I think TIllery is a good coach, I watched the "Breaking 100 series" w Barstool Trent and honestly he really simplifies the game. His biggest focus is creating speed from the ground up and "activating the lower body". I tried some of his tips in my game and it actually works.

Strange ranking system by MM. Jack #2 in 78/79 and wins 2 majors in 1980 and drops to #5? I understand Watson and Trevino, but Jack should be no worse than 3rd.

It should be interesting today. Have to go low. We’ll see if he can close the deal.

It is interesting that Rickie is rocking Mitsubishi MMT graphite shafts in his irons. Time will tell if he keeps them in the bag. I haven't seen a PGA tour player keep iron graphite shafts in the bag very long except for Kuchar with the Steelfiber shafts, but he is even back to steel.

Snedeker has always had steelfibers I think

I watched the back 9 today and he was 10-15 yards long/short on a lot of iron shots. He looked surprised almost every time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ditches them.

After the third round, he was leading the field in strokes gained from tee-to-green and hit 18/18 greens to card a 63. Haven't been following PGA tournaments much, so I did not know he was playing so well this week. Looks like he only had one bad hole at the par 5 sixth might have had a different outcome if had a better result on that hole. The graphite iron shafts may be the ticket. Right now, the results are speaking loud and clear.

At least for this week. He missed the cut with them last week. He is playing the ZOZO PGA Tour event in Japan this week which is a no cut small field event. So he will get 4 rounds of play. Will be interesting to see of he can follow it up with another good week.

Pleased to see Rickie back up there or thereabouts. He will never be a favourite of mine but I’d rather see him playing well enough rather than treading water which he has been doing for far too long.

I liked Rickie Fowlers move before he had instructors telling him to change his swing. I just grabbed some of his swings from 2010 before he had everyone telling him to change it. IMO it's a way better swing than anything of recent, even the Butch changes. He was a stud leading up to the tour with this move. His problem now is changing it too many times.

If you had ever played golf at a high level, state/provincial or national, you would know that  shooting -1 in the last round while hitting 14/16 greens does not fit even the widest definition of "puking". The putter can be very contrary. I remember Nicklaus saying he would never shoot 80 and having to birdie his last hole to shoot 79.  Tiger slashed his way to 80+ in a round at the Open.

If you do not like the man that is fine but to demean someone who you have never met with a 10th Grade insult says volumes about your lack of common sense.  I happen to be good friends with Fowler's former coach at Oklahoma State who told me that Rickie was one of the finest individuals he ever coached, both talent and character wise.  His $40 million in Tour earnings, five wins, and making the Fedex Cup for nine straight years are not elite class, but still pretty darn respectable

I've stood up for Rickie and his incredible year. This is a puke job. Sorry but it is what it is on a real easy golf course for PGA tour players.
