Original Prolaunch Red Driver vs FW Shaft

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I recently picked up a PL Red fairway shaft (the original type) to match my driver.

It was meant to be new but it has definitely been shortened. It is 42 inches instead of the uncut 44 inches.

If the 2 inches has been taken off the butt that’s no problem but I think the length has been taken from the tip.

if I put the two shafts next to one another and neither has been but trimmed would the shaft logos match up at the same point on the shaft?

I really dont know, the PL RED FW has longer tip section than the driver.
The FW model was 44.00" uncut, with a 5.0 long tip section
The Driver model is 46.00" with a 3.5" long tip before 2009, and 3.0 long after 2009

You should try to find where the tip section becomes taper, and measure "tip to taper" to see how much thats removed

Thank you very much, I shall get the tape measure out 🙂

if 2 inches has been taken from the tip I presume the shaft will play very stiff to it’s stated flex (which is stiff)?

Yes and no...
The PL RED FW was designed in those days bore trough heads was dominating the marked, so much of the tip section was blinded.
You get the idea when you see the tip trim instructions PRE 2009.

For short, if we used a shaft like this in a modern standard bore head, we would tip trim it 1.25" for DRIVER, and 1.75" for 3W, so 2.0 becomes a 4W with modern hosel insert and BBGM. (plus minus 215 grams head wgt)

So it depends on what head you install it in, and how you want it to play.

Thanks once again.

I am putting the shaft into a Titleist 917f2 3-wood so it is going into an Surefit adapter.

Then it sound all fine if the tip is actually cut down 2.0, but try to measure whats left of the tip section, it should be 3.0" now if its all cut from the tip.
