Tiger was in the field for 5 of the 6 majors Phil won and his finished in those majors were t22-t4-t3-t4-t6.

Also his record at Augusta from 2006-2013 is amazing considering he never won but was always in the mix.

t3-t2-2-t6-t4-t4-t40-t4

I think he could've easily won 2-3 green jackets in that span.

"Nicklaus played against four of the greatest golfers ever and not only won 18 majors but had 19 second-place finishes. His rivals were killers too – Palmer got him at Cherry Hills, Trevino took him down four different times including on an 18-hole playoff at Merion and Tom Watson won three majors over Nicklaus, all in heartbreaking fashion.

Then there’s Tiger, who never had a Sunday showdown with any of the modern greats."

And you’re saying he was the best for 12 months

Who’s on drugs?

I'm not saying it, Jack's 18 majors are saying it.  😂

You literally said hottest golfer in the world for 12 months lol. Tiger has had 4 seperate seasons where he won multiple majors (same as Jack), he's been PGA Tour POY 11 times while Nicklaus has won it 6 times. I acknowledged earlier in the thread Jack is the GOAT. But your claim is utter BS and you clearly know nothing about golf.

Tiger has beaten Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka in majors. The first 3 are hall of famers and the last 2 are multiple major champions and former world number 1s.

Tiger might be the biggest underperforming golfer ever, given his talent level. When he was at his peak, it wasn’t a question of  if, but rather when and by how much he eclipses Jack. This is the God’s honest truth. Discuss....

Since we discuss math, here it is. The likelihood of a given talent pool producing the best player ever, goes up proportionally with the number of people competing. By yesteryears standard, the number of folks grinding out tour school and making an honest effort back in the 50s, 60s, 70s to turn pro, were minuscule by today’s numbers. Most had full and part time jobs to supplement any sort of “career earnings” on the golf course. Comparing strength of field follows suit here as well, with many, many more men becoming competitive throughout the 90s and 00s, as earnings potential grew. With this increased qualifying and college recruiting, these future fields should be full with even greater talent, by sheer probability alone. This is guaranteed, no debating the mathematical facts on this matter.

This is the reason high school class size is the main factor in determining divisional status in athletics, the increased student body will almost always produce more able-bodied competitors, vying for the same number of team spots as the smaller schools. And by probability again, this increased pool of potential players will produce better talent.

It’s quite possible that back in Jack’s day, with the draw of talent into competitive golf being so low, that his era may have actually missed out on an even better, more dominant player than himself. This theoretical GOAT may have found it necessary to grind out a normal occupation to make a living, missing out on any possibility of fulfilling his true athletic destiny!

I just saw picture of Tiger at one of Charlie's golf tournaments on twitter. No crutches and appears to be standing just fine on the leg! I think he'll be back in time for Augusta next year.

ImageImage

Standing just fine, which is questionable based on two photos, and playing Augusta in 22 are worlds apart.

Looks like he's favoring his leg and maybe using the club for support? Any video of him walking?

Good to see him out but perhaps a little irrational exuberance?

You are such an idiot! I acknowledged that Jack is the goat earlier in the thread.

The entire reason I'm going after you is for this statement . Probably the stupidest thing anyone has ever said.

"Sure, Tiger was the best golfer ever to tee it up on the planet...for about 12 months."

If you think someone with 15 majors, 11 POY awards and having the lowest scoring average on tour 11 times was the best golfer was the hottest player on the planet for 12 months you should never comment in a tour talk thread again.

It has been suggested over the years, and I recall it was hotly debated at each time, that TW could have won more majors if he simply didn’t change his swing. If you recall, he changed his swing multiple times and just about everybody scratched their heads and wondered wtf he was doing.

In retrospect it is likely he was addressing injuries, and trying to find a way to continue playing and performing at the highest level. It is still debatable as to whether or not each swing change achieved what he was looking for, but there is no question the swing changes took time, and possibly detracted from winning more majors.

No doubt it was a Faustian bargain; he paid dearly with his body.

would be interesting had he not switched coaches and swings after 2000 where he would be. You just don’t see other top players doing that. Imagine brooks, Dustin  or Justin Thomas changing their swing so many times.

The thing is.  Jack ( I’m named after the guy ) is the Goat.   But. Tiger played the best golf that this planet has ever seen.  And that isn’t debatable.  Jack would agree with this.  There’s about a 18-22 month stretch that was not human.
