As posted above, Pelz detailed this too. None of this is new, but Bryson said it, so let's rag on the guy. Enough. It gets old.

I don't know if it ever gets old to post up on DeChambeau who views himself as a dilettante and an expert on all things.  Do NOT even suggest that he is impervious to criticism.  Get a grip...

Oh, but they do.  And they do often and deservedly all day long...

Dave Pelz discusses this at length in his Putting Bible. Bryson didn’t make some new discovery.

So if I don’t clean my ball completely when I putt, it could affect the roll also?

yes, same difference yes but still a difference.

I always thought this was Rickie's problem when he switched to TP5 ball. Lot bigger dimples therefore more missed short putts? Possibly who knows but very interesting stuff

Glue up cotton balls to the face of your putter to ensure the ball dimples are fully engaged in the fluff.   Problem solved…. I’ll shoot Bryson an email.

What happens if the ground isn't perfectly flat or there is a grain of sand the ball rolls over?

I remember a Golf Digest article from the 90s about this. I cannot remember who it was, could have been Pelz for all I know, but the author had done a bunch of testing on this and found that a percentage could/would catch an edge of a dimple for lack of a better term and throw the roll off line just enough to miss. His solution from what I can recall was a kleenex laid over the putterface which allowed just enough cushion to alleviate any edge that caught. His testing showed that diminished the problem, but obviously isn't legal or a long term fix.

I’ll say it: Pelz pushes as much pseudoscience as Bryson. Pelz writes authoritatively with a ridiculous arrogance and people fall for it. Just because you say something with authority and in 350 pages doesn’t mean it’s better or more accurate than something written in crayon on 6 pages.

So why don't you get your crayons out and write a book that counters what Pelz and Bryson are saying, and show your research.

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
