Speaking of Kelly Tan, I am one of those who would not immediately judge based on press. Malaysia has so many controversial issues such as Mahatir/Anwar, LKY/Tunku, SG water issue/MY turn off the taps threat, Etc etc... Heck I side with the Singaporeans usually on these issues... So, there you go, been there, lived there, worked there, etc etc... Can't take everything on face value from the press - would rather talk to Gavin or Kelly to get their "side" as well... Yes Gavin (even if he is not part of this "issue").

@KBong Nah mate, I think if you were in Kelly Tan’s shoes 👟 you might be similarly aggrieved (imagine a scenario where you are representing your country & are supposed to be getting admin support from your country Olympic officials, so that you can focus on performing your best... only to be abandoned & those officials are instead galivanting as tourists instead?

 

I can’t vouch for that hypothetical scenario ... but I recall something about the 2012 olympics (another sport... not Golf) & similar Govt/ Olympic officials visiting London and getting distracted ... and hearing about them collecting naughty postcards from those BT public telephone booths for “research purposes”)

@mallratIMHO it makes sense (for the scores to carryover)... i think of the Q-series as a 8-rounder (to "separate the wheat from the chaff" and conversely would be unfair(!) to reset the scores after R4 ... ==>change my mind?)

Emilia already knew her limits, similar to Yui, and "cut losses" ... Either that or playing pro golf was not really her #1 priority... 

 

There's another one of these college stalwarts hired by GC, forgot her name... At least it lends new "blood" in golf Broadcasting. As to whether it succeeds or fails, that's another story that those NBC guys need to work on...

Yeah I read that actually. There's 2 views to this / her experience: a) do whatever you want that you think is your calling (eg journalism for Emilia) and/or B) force yourself out of the "funk" you're in and deal with a mental/psychological sports trainer to improve in your sport (the trait i know of more esp with some other sports in Asia - Indonesian badminton players, some Japanese/Korean golfers etc. ) 

 

The risk of the latter, is, of course, "burnout".  Tough call, and while I'm no pro athlete, I think if one had the talent to compete, should try out pro, in my view.  (I didn't have the talent, so didn't have to go through mental anguish).
