SI calling Tiger the big winner of the PIP

Isn’t that the PIP doing exactly what it was designed to do? Reward the players that generate most buzz for the Tour. Sure, TW hasn’t played but after everything that has happened this year, even if it was in a very short period of time, I can’t see many guys having had more publicity.

makes sense that he would be. Kudos to Brooks and Bryson for reeling us all in with their WWE style feud also. They did everything short of bring in Mean Gene to interview them before their rounds

Love him of hate him. TO ME, nobody created more buzz throughout the year than DeChambeau. Whether it was the big weight gain, distance added, his wins, things he said or the "supposed" fued between him and Koepka.

The whole PIP thing is so subjective and quite frankly is away to give some players free money to remain with the PGA tour.  I was listening to Max Homa and the players don’t know what the criteria is and the tour said they aren’t releasing the winners.  Imagine if the NFL said 10 teams will qualify for the playoffs, but they don’t tell the teams what they need to do to qualify, then a trophy is given to a random team. Its just completely subjective and useless.  Spell out if the criteria is events played, new social media followers, most Pro-am’s played, who changed the game, etc.  If Tiger was the winner and all he accomplished was being in a car accident this year, then this whole thing is a joke.

Max had a good twitter account, but he's not moving any needles...

The criteria was listed in that article so the players themselves should have a good idea where they stand..

"According to his reporting, the "Impact Score" is based largely on a player's digital footprint, including search volume, Nielsen Brand ratings, Q rating and overall social media and digital impact. Here's the complete list, as far as we know:

  • Popularity in Google searches
  • Nielsen Brand Exposure rating (“rounds 3 and 4,” a PGA Tour spokesperson wrote in an email to SI.com)
  • Q-Rating
  • MVP Index rating, which “calibrates the value of the engagement a player drives across social and digital channels”
  • Meltwater Mentions (a social-media monitoring tool)"

Titleist....

The whole PIP is already a joke. It only incentivizes fake feuds and reality-tv, low IQ, off-course drama. Money should be won on the course.
Let’s not turn this into the NBA where the game is secondary to the off-season drama. It should be a payout to the top money winners. It’s the best metric to use.

From my very unscientific research, Tiger attending his kid's golf tournament seems to generate about three times as many news articles and Instagram posts compared to anything about Bryson and Brooks' little girl drama stuff.

That cause BK and BD always yapping and eye rolling and do nothing.

Where TW don’t say anything, but whenever he do something, it could be insane. Win golf, get 1000 pancakes, fall asleep on the road, smash his car like Evil Knievel.

TW like hurricane of monkeys dancing like MC Hammer coming over the horizon . Total freak show 🤣

Couldn't have said it any better.  The truth is, Tiger could have done a lot of other things as well that would have moved the needle in his favor.  He transcends the game and clearly still owns and drives the larger viewership on the PGA Tour.  If anything positive really comes from this PIP nonsense, it's that the PGA Tour realizes it has a real problem coming down the pipeline when Tiger truly packs it all up and moves on.

They did spell out a criteria.

And, Tiger isn't winning because of the car accident.

He's winning because he's so freaking famous and a cultural icon because of past performance. So, he's still getting more Google searches than anyone else. Because he's Tiger Woods.

Honestly, there is some legitimacy to it. Tiger is so famous and magnetic that he actually does draw more people to the game than anyone else, even when he's out injured.

They were vague with the criteria.  If other players don’t get how it’s calculated then that’s an issue.  If it wasn’t going to be subjective, players should have known what exactly gets you in the money.

So let’s say 1 thing is google searches, on the day of and after his car accident, the searches were inflated.  If him being so freaking famous is your reasoning, then call it what it is a popularity contest.   Why isn’t Jack getting a cut?  What is done on the course should matter more than your twitter or IG followers.  Everyone will disagree and probably evicerate me, but I don’t believe Tiger brought as many people to golf as people think.  Viewership yes, actually playing no.

Duh, obviously he crashed his car on purpose.  Nothing like a career threatening injury for an all time great to get the buzz going.  Tiger needed some cash to get his yacht de-barnacled, and he needed his private 3 hole course aerated.

Tiger could tweet about his trip to Cabellas for some fishing lures and get more buzz than Bryson and Brooks making out in a hot tub with each other.

Geez guys…of course it’s rather subjective.  Funny how a Max Homa gets it but there’s so much grumbling here.

No, I’m pretty good at reading, so I read how the thing is going to work so I had a feeling this is going to be fun for people like me and Hermie [Jim Herman] and Joel [Dahmen] and Harry Higgs and all these guys used to having funny jokes on Twitter, but it’s not,” Homa said. “This wasn’t for us. And it shouldn’t be for us.

“It should be for the guys who are bringing in money for us. Like we’re making it on the side. People just don’t get it. Like, I’m making more money in these golf tournaments because of the 10 guys who will get this PIP money.”

This was strictly a stab at the fledgling Premier League.  You cannot lose your moneymakers.

L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
