Mid-Master (or some equivalent) Club Champion?

Something I've been kicking around and wanted to bring up with the Men's Committee at my club but thought I'd workshop here first... pretty much every year our Club Championship will be won by one of a handful intermediate members in their 20s, posting a three-round score that I can't touch on my best days. There's a separate Senior Championship earlier in the summer for members 55 & older. I'm 42, a 3 handicap, and realistically don't have a chance at competing for a "major" club title for another 13 years.

 

I've played in the Ontario Mid-Am a few times, and in addition to the overall winner they crown a Mid-Master champion for the best score from somebody 40 and over. That got me thinking... maybe my club could do the same in our Club Championship? That's a peer group I'd be much more competitive with and would give some extra incentive for us beyond just making the cut in the Club. There would be no incremental work required to do this - just a tournament within a tournament. 

 

I'm honestly not sure if this is a good idea or not. Do other clubs have something equivalent? Curious what others think. Thanks!

It doesn't really seem like any extra work for the tournament committee so maybe they would be open to it, but I don't really see the point in having a title like this. After all, it is literally nothing more than a title.

 

This may sound harsh, but it's not like you actually won the even. You just played better than a handful of guys who are the same age as you.

Isn’t that just called the 1st flight?  Not mandatory to sign up for championship flight at my club.
