High and soft landing from 260-270 out.....what club to buy?

pretty tough to hit it 260-270 and have it come down softly with a 3 wood.

Best advice would be to learn how to hit it 300yds with a 3 wood, and then use a shaft that spins too much for you

That is one path I am thinking too.

find a 3 wood thats too long and get a spinny shaft

I played with a few college golfers this season who were very fast and they were using 3i ( I think, it could have been 2i) to play to those yardages... not sure why some are bagging on the OP, but some people are just fast and have incredible length..

Par 5's, I'm grabbing 3w and they grab irons.. 😂

That is more my issue. I can hit my 2i long enough, but not high enough

I have a PXG 0317x proto 2 hybrid (cut down an inch and weighted up) that does exactly what you want…but for some reason the ball lands 40-50 yards shorter for me on decent pokes. But I’m just a normal human being. You may get better results with your stellar swing speed. Seriously though, that 2 hybrid is wicked good for normal golfers.

What are the specs of your 2-iron?  Maybe some other kind of 2-iron with a hybrid length shaft and hollow body like a MP20 MHB or UDI or something?  If you don't hit woods well and you already have a 2 iron in the bag then your only real option is a hybrid of some kind.

Stop being so weak and looking for a club that goes a certain distance and lands softly when you should be asking how you can hit it further with your driver so you don't need a club that goes 260 and has to land softly...  I mean, if your DI or 5wd is carrying these distances, it shouldn't be hard to hit driver 340+ more often...

Ill check those out, had looked into them briefly but didnt see lower lofts in lefty

I just noticed that there were mainly 19* lofts on ebay and you needed something lower lofted than your 2 iron.  I would assume that one of these in that loft would be a little longer with the right shaft, but I don't know how much longer.  Good luck.  I'm not the High swing speed player to give input on these distances. 😂

I hate hitting large FW heads off the deck, so I got a relatively small headed wood and it’s been great. It is a “tour” model with the weight placed near the club face, which increases spin for soft landing. I also play it a tad short at 42” and really like how that is working out. I just like the way it looks behind the ball, and it definitely flies higher and spins more than a hybrid would at the same loft (16* here). My choice was the Cobra F9 Tour 4/5W which is 145 cc, compared to 170s of standard fairway woods. Here it is between a normal 3W and my 4H for scale.

There are other small fairways out there, plus the new Callaway UW looks like a good option as well.

Back in my youth i had a 3 wood like this, an Adams tour model but can't remember which. I had a mid launch shaft in it, hit it miles high. Probably 15-20yds shorter than my other 3 woods just because it wasn't fit for me properly. It was good for going for par 5's in two but i didn't like it off the tee for obvious reasons

Back then i probably swung 118-119 with driver. So i was probably hitting 3 woods around 270, just not the Adams one

To add to the discussion: the Tour Edge CBX 119 2 hybrid (16*) is an absolute cannon and easier to hit off the deck than a fairway wood. It’s longer than my 15* 3W at times (not off the tee, though), looks fantastic and is just plain cool in the bag. Beats the utility iron out of semi-serious lies, too.

Find the right shaft and this could be the ticket.

And congrats on 8th place, pretty impressive, man!

Good luck! I saw you are also pondering shaft flex. My suggestion is not to monkey around with weaker flex, but stick with X and go with a less-low (i.e. mid) launch/spin shaft. I have a Proforce V2 7F5 in mine and it’s great, while HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.0 tipped was a lot less accurate.

Whatever you hit, it’s going to have to be higher launch, lower spin. For a normal launch to have that level of ball speed with the level of spin would balloon off the planet….

The guys on tour that are doing that I’ve seen are typically hitting the ball way up high with a 3 wood and not a ton of spin…

I’m assuming you know your numbers if you have that kind of speed. Play with the Foresight ball optimizer, put in your speed numbers, and play with the launch/spin until you get the decent angle you’re looking for.

I need something that is a touch longer than my 2i, but much higher launch for the rare times I need to land a ball soft from over 250.

Easy answer is a 5 wood but I just have a hitting woods. Im thinking like a 16* Hybrid but will that low loft go high enough?

This will almost exclusively be a deck club so that is also a factor. I can hit woods fine off a tee but off the deck is my struggle.

I currently have an SLDR 5 wood and M1 3hl, and they are "almost" what I am looking for...... I have hit other 5 woods but most spin more than I want and dont go further than my 2i

OH AND IM ALSO A LEFTY 🙂

Me... I would hit my driver hard as I can and it would roll the last 15 yards.

Its very rare I need to worry about this scenario, and I know its a lower percentage shot.

But I have an open slot in the bag, and a few holes at my local course where there isnt a ton of trouble should I not execute that shot 🙂

Seriously learn to hit a 48"  5* driver and then go from there.  Since it is an extra space anyway you could carry both drivers.
