PXG Irons

Not having hit those specific two I will give you my feedback on the original 0211 and 0311 P Gen2 irons I have.  Feel is similar (especially on well struck shots).  The most noticeable difference for me is spin.  Same shaft in both (Mitsubishi MMT 70g), the 0211 irons with a 7 iron were in the 4000's for me where the 0311 P irons I usually hit 5500-6000.  Which for me offered much better distance control.  I launched a few knuckle-bombs that flew the green with the 0211 irons (it was not frequent, but it happened), I have not seen that with the 0311 irons.   Does that make the 0311 irons "better", no.   It does make them better for my game though so that is why I kept them and sold the 0211 irons.  I am sure there are plenty of others that will weigh in who have hit the newer generation irons that can offer some additional insight, but I would not be surprised based on the spin numbers I see from the YouTube golf reviews if that was still not the case.  If you have the chance to demo or get a fitting I would highly recommend it, but I understand that is not always possible.

Oh also if you are comparing specifically the 0311P vs. the 0211 the lofts are going to be a lot stronger on the 0211 and I would say they are more similar to the 0311XP vs. the P

This is correct.  The 2021 0211 lofts are much more like the 0311XP. I've had the 0311Ps and the 0211. I couldn't tell the difference in feel but like the forgiveness of the 0211s. They are about a club longer due to the lofts and length (0.5" longer).

I am getting fitted with 0311's this November. I am leaning towards a Gen 3P and Gen 4P depending on what the numbers (carry & spin) show up. I am turning 50 years old next year and as statistic shows, you start to lose distance as you age especially for the average golfer. Because of the age factor, I want to future proof (at least 5 years) the distance aspect. I was toying with the idea of combining a P (GW-8i) with the XP (7i-4i). And by strengthening the loft of the P's maybe by 1 degree and weakening the lofts of the XP's by 1 degree, then the gap might just be fine between the P 8i & XP 7i (Lofts of PXP irons could be weaken and strengthen by as much as 2 degrees). I thought of also just going with all XP but the P just has a more compact and attractive look (top line, offset) when you look down at address behind the ball. I have played Titleist 714 and 718 AP2's. My current gamer is the AP3. The new Titleist T200 (successor of the AP3) has reduced offset and made the top line slightly slimmer. Titleist R & D says that the reduced offset in the player's iron did not significantly affect the player's ability in this category. But then again, the deciding factor with the PXG fitting would depend on the LM's numbers. Has anyone thought of my ideas or has anyone combined these 2?

I would also take a look at the 0211 st. depending on your skill level. I would say I’m far from an incredible golfer and they are extremely forgiving for blades.  I have gamed the 0311P gen 3 since right after they came out. I got to hit around 20 balls with the 7i 0211 st and they felt like butter and more control than the gen 3 for me. They are killer deal as well for forged blades. Im getting a set!!

I'm a handicap 9. Even though my swing speed is hovering between 88 to 90 mph,  I can play a blade. On paper, the design states high moi. But I am a little skeptical that I would achieve my potential distance compared to a player's irons because of the lack in mass. Of course, I will still give it a try. You're right, with it's triple forge construction and killer price, that is hard to ignore.

I just moved from the 2019 Taylormade P790 irons to the 2021 0211 DualCor PXG irons.  They look nice, are more forgiving than the Taylormades, and feel a little better.  They really are great irons.  The lofts are very strong, however, so there is some getting used to with that.  However, I think I’ll stick with them.  They really are crazy easy to hit.

I am interested in pxg irons but what is the difference between 0211(2021) and gen 3 0311P.

Besides the fact that 0311 is forged and the 0211 is cast, is there any difference besides that??

Here is the comparison chart I was looking for:

I’ve played both and they are really close.  I’m playing the Gen 3 but the 0211DC’s didn’t have the correct shafts for me.  0211 had MMT’s in A flex and the 0311 Gen 3 XP have my current shafts - MMT Reg flex

I’ve owned or tried all of the PXG irons since Gen 1.

I’ve always got on with O311s, but never got on with 0211s.

I think this is partly because the 0311s feel and sound better to me. Which could be my imagination.

But I’m also quite sensitive to swing weight and PXG haven’t been able to adjust the swingweight of 0211s to suit. Especially with graphite shafts they are awfully light and for that leads to hooks.

Plus, if I’m honest, I like the aesthetics of 0311s much better.

I wouldn’t pay the extra for Gen4 0311s, but I would for Gen3s.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 0211 are raw stainless steel.  The 0311 are chrome plated carbon steel.

I had exact same experience.  Similar feel although 0311P a touch softer?  0311 had more spin and less prone to occasional ballooning.  Still have 0211 as a backup set and with the KBS TGI shafts still play beautifully.

Thank you for all this PXG information! I just ordered the PXG 0211 irons in graphite senior flex (5-GW) for my 78 year old Dad. He is going to freak out when they show up on his door step. I have never tried any PXG clubs. All this feedback has made me very happy with my order and I am sure this will be one hell of a Christmas present.

I also just purchased a set of the newer PXG 0211 also in senior flex, MMTs 6-GW and a 5H.  He's going to be super excited as well. Let us know how your father likes them!

tried the 0211 this weekend and they feel great (much better than the 'forged' wilson D7) and performed pretty well. For the money they are really great value, I'm just not a big fan of the looks, they look too much like a ping 😉

Head of design was formerly from Ping so not a shock, but with the budget they now have, I think they are doing some really interesting things.  Hey, if you are going to start a new golf company, go and  take from the best right? It's working well for Genesis - they took top guys from Bentley, Aston Martin and BMW M division and for a brand new offshoot, are coming up with some really nice and interesting products.  Not everyone's cup of tea but have to respect the attempt.  Going the conservative route, copying what everyone else is doing is easy.  I am no PXG band wagon jumper by the way.  Just like everyone else here, I love equipment, love tinkering and have tried everything.  PXG for me is some of the best stuff right now regardless of price. I would never have purchased any of their clubs though if they were the original full price. It's the price reductions that convinced me to try.

I played with someone at the weekend who had swapped to PXG Gen3 from Titleist AP3's and the ball flight he had with the new irons was insane. I'm going for a fitting next week, if I like them and I get fit to a spec they offer online then I'll buy them as the price is excellent. If I need a different spec from what is offered online I will skip as the fitter is charging 300 euros per club - which is too much for me.
