How does it play in the rough? A bit surprised by no ventus red custom option...

I asked a Callaway customer service rep on the phone over the weekend about the lack of Ventus Red options, which I was curious about too given that all their promo materials show Phil and Johnny Wunder using them. I was told it's a stock issue, and that as they get more available it'll show up as an option.

Reminds me of the F6 Baffler use case, but UW looks a bit smaller front to back.

I'm curious on how similar this plays to the baffler. I have a baffler in the backup bag and am wondering if there is much to be gained by going for the UW...

I’m so tempted to order from pga superstore but the Ventus upgrade seems too good to be true

Yeah it’s for sure a mistake on their website that they somehow haven’t fixed yet. Since it’s the wrong kind of shaft entirely, I highly doubt this is some sort of intentional secret sale similar to what TGW does with Titleist woods and Graphite Design shafts from time to time (including right now, with the TSi3 fairway wood and the AD DI shaft).

I figure either PGA SS will honor their mistake and push it through with the wood version of the Ventus shaft with no upcharge to the customer (which is what the customer service rep I talked to over the weekend said he thought would happen), or they’ll just cancel all their custom Apex UW orders. Who knows. Either way, as long as it’s on a credit card and I’m not out the actual cash, I don’t mind just waiting and seeing.

Can someone enlighten me on the whole Ventus shaft thing?
Is callaway going to offer at no upcharge? Did PGASS mess up and offer at no upcharge?

I was originally confused at the RDX black stock shaft as I wouldn't expect a club like the UW to be paired with a "Low/Low" shaft. I would have assumed it would be paired with the RDX Blue

Thanks

Are people tending to more sweep this club or hit more down on it like an iron?

I treat it like a fairway wood. So it is slightly more sweepy I guess. At least for me.

There's no real clarification yet.

What seems to have happened is, PGA Superstore messed up a few things on their website. Among their errors, at least that I noticed:

-- They listed hybrid shafts instead of wood shafts for the Apex UW.

-- They listed the full Ventus hybrid shaft lineup as no upcharge for the Apex UW.

-- They listed that same full Ventus hybrid shaft lineup as no upcharge for the Epic Super Hybrid. (This despite the fact that there is an upcharge for the exact same shafts on all other Callaway hybrids on their website.)

-- They put the Apex Pro hybrid spec chart at the bottom of their Apex UW page.

-- Their customer service reps had no idea what was going on, and assumed when I called that it must just be a made-for Ventus without Velocore if it was listed there for free. But they also insisted these clubs would be built and shipped directly by Callaway, and Callaway says unlike TaylorMade they don't offer any non-"real deal" versions of the Ventus shafts.

I called and asked them about the errors late last week, more out of confusion than anything, and they weren't able to sort it out. Then I called again over the weekend, and called Callaway too, and the PGA SS customer sales rep said he was informing their web staff of the issue. I also emailed them Friday, after the phone call wasn't helpful. Despite the heads up from me and I'm sure many other people, it somehow took until this morning for them to stop people from checking out carts with the Apex UW with Ventus shafts for free, and Epic Super Hybrids with Ventus shafts for free.

So, just a lot of confusion, no real clarity. And I've been the source of it on this forum, I'm afraid, because I've been passing on what I'm seeing and hearing from them. The customer service rep told me on the phone over the weekend that he thinks what they'll end up doing is getting these built by Callaway with Ventus wood shafts rather than the listed hybrid shafts. But there's no clarity yet on exactly what they'll do.

EDIT TO ADD: Just checked the PGA SS website and they now have the correct shafts listed at the correct price. So it was clearly a mistake; question now is what they'll do about orders placed before they fixed it.

I just got a shipping confirmation, and a separate confirmation from a customer service rep I'd been dealing with today, that they put the Apex UWs ordered with Ventus hybrid shafts through with Ventus wood shafts, at no charge to the customer -- or at least to me!

They did the same with Epic Super Hybrids that were listed with Ventus HB shafts at no upcharge. I got both, so I'll do a head-to-head.

I'd jump on that LAGP deal...

This is one I’ve been wanting to test as well — it has some noticeable offset but seems to sit square. Unfortunately lefty demo versions haven’t been around locally so I haven’t hit it yet. Wonder if the King Forged Tec also is large enough that it falls into this category? Cobra’s hybrids tend to be a little longer than average.

Cobra King Tec was so good for me that even though I heard this club was coming from Callaway I went ahead and bought the Cobra.

I have it in the 17*, it fits the bill between my 3 wood and and my 4 iron very well as I am able to hit it straight, cut and draw.  With hybrids I had only been able to hit straight, draw, or hook the crap out of them before.

It is bigger head size than any hybrid I have tried before, and it sits without much offset, and completely neutral.   Plus I like adjustability, which it has over the UW.
