I really thought the 21° would be great for me, but all I could hit were low spin, low launch bullets that fell out of the sky and just rolled. If I was playing links golf, it would probably be a great option, but not so much when I need a 210 carry over water.

Went back to my Ping G410 7 wood.

To my understanding, UW is design for lower launch, lower spin than fairway wood.

So what's the reason you want to play UW instead of G410?

Callaway Paradym TD 9, Autoflex 505.

I have the Apex UW 19* with a Project X Cypher Regular Shaft. It has a very solid mid ball flight with good distance for my swing speed (100 mph Driver). Very impressed with the UW.

When people are buying these are they getting them at the standard lie or flat?  It's taking all my energy to not buy one of these, but I keep building one and putting it in my cart on Callaway's site, so I'm thinking it might just be time..

Currently hitting a SIM2 3w that goes about 245-250, then a Srixon 23* 4i that goes about 210-215.  So thinking about getting the 19* to hopefully get that 225-230 shot, so not sure if a 19* or 21* would be appropriate.

I’d get the 21. In my experiences these things go a lot further than you think they will. I could see the 19 creeping up on your 3 wood

I did the same, haha.  I’ve had a couple UWs before but move them when re-configuring the top end of my bag.  But at that price, and with a spare fairway shaft, I had to do it.  I need to keep this one around.

I snagged a "good" one for $140 plus I had $38 in rewards points. Hoping that condition is ok and I can live with it. I had the 17* and sold it. Just didn't fit my gaps well at my new course. I've been missing the club a lot and have been looking. This is just too good to pass up.

Yeah I snagged a “Good” one a few weeks ago. It’s pretty dinged up on the top as my guess is a lot of people bag these without head covers. Doesn’t impact playability and the club itself is a rocket launcher so I’ll just live with the markings

I play the 21 with a Ventus Blue and the launch is wonderful. Nice high ball flight but still a piercing trajectory that drops out of the sky!

Got mine today. It was a brand new club with wrap on shaft and grip. The paint had some scratches but it looked to be shop wear and the face and sole had obviously never been hit. Very good deal for $140 and I had $38 in rewards so it was under $120 with shipping and tax.

I changed shafts on both my 17 and 21 last year around this time. From what I can recollect it’s at least 1.25” and at most 1.5”

Anyone having crazy distance from the UW? I picked up a 21 degree to replace my tsi2 5 wood due to it going too far. I needed a 230-240 club. My 21 degree UW with Ventus blue 9tx goes 250-255. I find it being my only fairway metal and had to put a 3 iron in the bag to fill the gap between my 4 iron and UW. Thinking of picking up a 7 wood to test against it.

Yes, in the beginning of this thread lots of people were saying the same though you seem to be getting quite a bit more distance than most. Most be a good fit.

I get about 230 carry out of my 19*, which is awfully close to my 3W carry. That’s why the UW often isn’t in the bag (I go with a G425 7W lofted down to 19.5 instead, it’s shorter, higher ballflight and spinnier).

I’d love to find something between the UW and my driver that makes sense and gives me something extra — maybe a TSR2+ is worth a try. FWIW I’m a lefty so I can’t go with the 21*.

Quick word to the mid flight mid spin crowd.  Don’t sleep on the LINQ Purple shaft - it’s a great shaft for the UW to add height to the high ball speed.

That's where mine sits.  I do hit this about 10 yards father than my older 19* which creates a bigger gap, however if I need to dial it back, I'll choke down an inch and it also responds well to a little 3/4 swing.   Based on how well this club plays in numerous situations, I would really be hesitant to change it too much away from stock.

have a 19 with 70 6.0 HZDS Smoke in it.  I play a G425 with a Ping 75 X in it with my 3 wood,  I have an extra 3 wood shaft of the same.  I'm thinking of cutting it down to the same length callaway has in it already and putting it in.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Bad idea?

I mentioned a couple of posts up that I want to have my Apex UW 19* in the bag more often, but I'm struggling with gapping. (I'm a lefty, so 19* is my only option.) I do really love the club. I've found the Riptide is actually a really solid no-upcharge shaft for it because it kicks launch and spin up.

Thing is, I get 230 out of my UW and only about 235ish out of my 3W. So I'm wondering ... if I go with the UW full-time next season, what do I slot in between it and the driver to give myself some meaningful gapping and versatility?

I could just decide to make the 19* UW my second-longest club. It's great off the tee and I don't mind it being the longest club I hit off the deck.

I see @RunOfTheDill you have a Ping G425 3W in the bag. What's the distance difference between your 3W and your Apex UW? Is that set-up working out well for you? How do you use the 3W vs. the UW?

And @MountainKing similar question for you -- I know the Stealth Plus 3W is a rocket off the tee. How much longer is it than your UW?

I've also thought about going with the TSR2+, thinking that might get me a little more distance and separation between the two clubs. Maybe I could even do a second driver, and go with a draw/fade set-up. Or maybe I just decide to make the UW the longest club in the bag and carry the higher-lofted hybrid that I sub in for my utility iron on a couple specific courses with heavy rough all the time.

Just mulling over the options!

No. Which is why I'm asking questions and trying to build my bag with more meaningful gaps, looking for something that offers me a more substantial difference from the UW.

I maybe confused but a more reliable club 5 yards short of a 3 wood would replace the three wood no?

It would effectively replace both my second- and third-longest clubs -- so 3W and my 19.5 degree fairway wood. The distance is right in between the two, and it's easy to take a little off the UW, too; no need to duplicate and keep the 19.5 fairway in the bag. That would leave me with the UW and then an open spot.

I play the 17* as my longest non-driver club. It goes just as far as my previous 3 and 4 woods. I have a mid/mid UST Proforce V2 in it and the launch is perfect - can be high with some spin, or just missiles depending on what you’re after. I think the low/low shaft pairing could be a problem for lots of golfers trying to fill a gap. The face is really hot.

The CG is just forward and higher than most fairways. It was designed for the tour mostly.

I think if most of us compared it to a bigger hybrid than a fairway it would help understand it better. It’s literally in between a fairway wood and a hybrid.

For me the 21 degree with the stock shaft (never changed it out) was perfect for what I was looking for. It’s about a 225-230 club that I can hit plenty high but not super spinny like a 7w yet much more consistent than my previous 20 degree hybrid.

Gaps perfectly for me between a 4wood (my longest fairway) and my 23 degree 4hybrid.
