Korn Ferry Tour Q school

Any idea how much this was happening?  Like did every event have at least one "bought" sponsor exemption or was it a rarity?

More often than not it was happening.

Mathew Wolffs caddie (Nick Heinen) was the worst I’ve seen in 2019. I think there was a stretch of him getting invites like 7 weeks straight. There was enough uproar on Twitter that the KFT took away what was going to be his 8th invite and at that point he had quit playing. He did nothing with the invites as well so made it even worse.

I've been interest in the Korn Ferry tour the last couple of years because of the current group of talented players from Mississippi.  In looking at the info for KF Q-school events, it amazed me to see the entry fees at each stage.  My rough estimate is that the entry fees for all 26 events combined will be around $9 million and I was wondering if that money goes into administration expenses or prize money or something else.

Pretty sure the tour just banks that money. Some will go to cover final stage costs for that purse but the tour has plenty of money to cover what they’re putting out.

They even raised q school prices this year for players which is a pretty poor thing to do to these guys

First site in FL wrapping up today, lots of recognizable names in the field. Top 19 and ties move on to final stage and get at least some KF status. Other 4 sites are next week.

Poor Smylie. 🙁

Let's see,

Rickie is on the PGA Tour.

Jordan is on the PGA tour.

Justin is on the PGA tour.

Smylie is not on the PGA Tour.

Surprised Jamie Lovemark doesn't have KF status-

Owgr top 500 currently making some PGA Tour cuts and 9 of 13 on KF last season including 6 top 25s and a 2nd.

Top 100 PGA Tour in 17-18

Won twice on KF and was top money winner in 2010

Was hurt and had a major medical- 16 PGA starts last season and 1 this season but no KF status? Fine line out there.

+1. Honestly the KFT finals are a lot more entertaining than the fedex cup finals. Every single shot can make or break a guys career, just insane

Yeah, exactly. So much more on the line for these guys. And the difference between making it or not is sooooo slim.

I’ll be in Ga for the final rounds of Korn ferry tour q school… caddying for a fellow friend and competitor, curious to see how the field handles the pressure as I’ve caddied for a friend at Torrey Pines in 08 who missed the cut @ the US Open… tournament golf is about as comparable as tennis is to ice hockey… 2 completely different beasts…looking forward to seeing a few old friends and the pressure that’s in the atmosphere… missed getting into stage 2 a few hrs back by 2 strokes and as close as I was I was psychologically a mile away… one things for sure, at final stage anyone can come out on top or completely implode… just hangout in the parking lot and unfortunately you’ll see grown men crying like babies.. it’s a shame but it’s the nature of the game, as in life

Add the tv cameras and bright lights and now the pressure even bigger.

Question for people in the know: do some players take any meds/supplements for the nerves? I've heard players have taken beta blockers or what have you.

I’ve never heard of guys taking anything like that

I’m amazed with the number of guys who drink coffee before rounds out there. It’s awful for playing golf

I think I heard about the beta blockers during a Podcast talking about 90s golf. Maybe not a thing anymore.

Agree about the coffee. I love coffee and I can tell the times I've overdone it just in my dad's golf league! It will get your parasympathetic nervous system revved up!

Gumberg who’s playing in Bermuda on one this week is also someone who’s gotten quite a few invites per say

Lovemark (and other guys who have at one time had a PGA Tour card) are exempt straight  into KF Terry Stage 2 qualifying event. This is good policy because it gives the PGA Tour veterans some status, yet requires them to earn their way by playing good enough at Stage 2 to make it thru to Final Stage.

Those vets have 0 status when they miss 2nd stage, unless they’re a past champ like Jonathan Byrd etc

As it should be, because otherwise KF Tour  FInal Stage would be filled with PGA Tour veterans. Allowing PGA Tour veterans to bypass KF Tour pre-qualifying and Stage 1 is giving them plenty of status and, or, respect. Remember, the Korn Ferry Tour's primary function is to give young up and coming players the opportunity to refine their games well enough to compete well when/if they are able to earn a card for the PGA Tour.
