Who has played predominantly one ball this past year?

I'm not good enough at golf where I feel like I need to elaborately test 5-10 balls to be "fit" for my game.

But I'm also not good at golf, so taking one variable out of the equation by always playing the same ball is important to me. If I'm inconsistent, I want to know that it's because my swing was bad, not because the ball I'm playing that hole has different characteristics than the one I lost on the last hole lol.

Most of the year I was on Kirkland, because it seemed to have no real downsides, was a urethane ball, and the price can't be beat.

When the big ball test came out, though, I switched to the MTB-X. The Kirkland was way out on the end of the spectrum spin-wise, whereas the Snell seemed to be much more "middle of the road" and appropriate for me. And they come in Yellow.

So the MTB-X is my ball 100% of the time now.

Ping G25 10.5* w/ Diamana 'ahina 70 x5ct stiff (set -0.5 to 10*)

Sub70 Pro Tour 5w w/ Aldila NV NXT 85 stiff

Wishon EQ1-NX 4h, 5i-GW single-length built to 37.5" w/ Nippon Modus3 120 stiff

Sub70 286 52/10, 286 56/12, and JB 60/6 wedges, black, built to 36.75" w/ Nippon Modus3 120 stiff

Sub70 Sycamore Mallet putter @ 36.5" with Winn midsize pistol grip

Having done some testing at the start of the year: 2021 TP5X in Yellow got the spot in my bag. And unless something amazing happens - will stay in 2022 also….

Performance for my swing, speed and spin levels is everything you could wish for. I particularly love the one-hop; and stop on the spot ability from 40-80 yards. It’s so consistent and reliable here. Balls of old for me have sometimes run out. And sometimes spun back like crazy. Not this.

Durability is above average - but not as exceptional as the way it plays - for me - imo.

A small trade-off……..

The 2020 Bridgestone Tour BX is my ball of choice.  Tried the 2021 Pro V1 for a few rounds, but came back to the BX.  The BX does everything well for my game.

Played the Q star tour for a bit but it spun too much off driver. Switched to the ‘19 ProV1 in May and instantly picked up distance. Been playing it since with some random tour balls I’ve found mixed in here and there. Found a chrome soft and really liked it so bought a dozen of those this weekend.

I played one of those that I had found for 10 holes yesterday and was really liking it. Of course I then lost it in the leaves on the 11th hole.

Pinnacle Rush, super consistent and as a high ball player, spin is adequate. Price and durability are perks as well. Firmer sounding cover but softer core for good feel across all seasons.

I used the same ball all season.  Other than winter rounds, I've stuck with a one ball philosophy for many years now.  I just feel like there's a level of familiarity and predictability when you play the same ball all the time.  Even if it's just a fraction of a shot per round gained in the long run by playing a ball you know, it's worth it to me.  When you get down around scratch and below, it's so hard to get even fractions of a stroke better.

Understanding how a ball is going to react on certain shots is so important.  This is one of the reasons I never play found balls.  I have some playing partners that will play anything they find and then wonder why the ball ran off the green or sent flying past the hole on a putt.

There are only 3 possibilities (assuming weather does not come into play) that will affect your shot.  The ball, the club choice, and YOU.  Of course, "YOU" is normally the issue for 90% of golfers, but by playing the same ball, you've now got it down to just two things to worry about.

Exactly this, if a ball looks brand new and is similar enough to my gamer, I will consider playing it. However, if I can eliminate another variable in my game, I will gladly pay a couple hundred bucks a year to not have these problems haha

I've pretty much played the same ball - ProV1 - consistently for the past few years.

This is not because I'm a Titleist fan. I'm not, actually. I do it because 1) I buy them used, so they're pretty cheap, and 2) I can get them in batches of all the same model year. This gives me relatively good confidence in consistency.

For me, wanting this consistency isn't so much that I can actually tell much of a difference, or even less so - take advantage of those differences. Instead, it's just a way of providing me "one less thing to think about". Sort of like all my clubs having the same grips.

I'd be just as happy to play most any other tour-grade ball, but they're much more difficult to get in single model year batches for the simple fact that they're a lot less common and sorting into model year batches probably isn't economically viable for the used ball sellers.

That said, as we're now heading into the winter season, I'm starting to use the batch of mixed brand tour-grade balls that I've collected in the weeds over the past season. Just fun playing a few different models for free during the off-season.

Bought 5 doz Snell MTB-X a little over a year ago and have been playing them for almost all of the year. I did try a sleeve of MTB Black and will probably be going with the Blacks on my next bulk order.

I've been TP5X for a while and tour preferred x previously.  I'll try out various balls I find our are curious about but nothing ever really swaped me.  I did test out a Bridgestone ball at the end of last season and really ilked it, I don't remember the model, but if I moved away from TP5x that would probably be the ball I'd jump to.

This ^^^^

I play the Snell Black or the Z-Star when they have the deal.

That's it

I know how each ball will react to the shots I hit

I took the time to find my ball

I played round with almost every ball I could find

I did not test the Maxfli, but I am almost out of Z-Stars and will give them a whirl
